Be sure to take all of the proper safety precautions. In this video we will show how to use the minipro TL866CS eeprom programmer. Here we have the box for the eeprom programmer and all of its contents along with two adapters. In the box, you will receive a mini cd, with programming software, a USB cable to connect the programmer to your computer, nine blank eeproms, the programmer, and two adapters. This is how to connect the USB cable to the programmer. The other end here, connect to the USB port on your computer. Start by flipping up the lever, then place your adapter into the slots, on the top of the programmer. Be sure to align pin 1 as shown in the diagram on the programmer. Once the adapter is in place push the lever down to securely lock it. Push down on the top of the adapter to open the pin terminals. Correctly align pin one on the eeprom according to the diagram on the programmer. Once the eeprom is aligned, use the tweezers to push down on the top of the eeprom to hold it in place, and then release the top of the adapter to create the best connection. Open the programming software. Choose the device to program to. Load the file to be programmed. Click on the programming button. Click Program. Programming should begin immediately. If you receive this error, go back and reseat the eeprom in the adapter and then try again. If you receive the error 5 times, it means there could be something wrong with the actual eeprom, and you should try a different eeprom. The yellow light on the programmer, will light up when programming. Programming time can vary depending on the file size. You may also receive an error halfway through the programming. At that point, that means there is something wrong with the chip and you should try a different eeprom. Next, we will show how to read data from the eeprom, and save it to burn to a new chip. If the chip is damaged or corrupt, you will not be able to read the original data. Select the device you are reading from. Click the Read from Chip button. Click Read. In this video I'll go over a combination of programmer software, EEPROM adapter, and programmer printed circuit board (PCB) modifications to allow +5V 93XXX (e.g., 93C66) and +5V 95XXX (e.g., 95040) SOIC8 / SO8 EEPROMs to also be supported by the ubiquitous CH341A USB MinProgrammer (Black Edition), in addition to its usual SO8 24XXX and 25XXX device support, but now in +5V as well (e.g., 24C08). With this support you can use this programmer to change VIN information in most Radio or Body Control Module (BCM) types sold in the USA from the 1990s and early to mid 2000s, as well as to perform odometer mileage correction manually in these same BCMs or an instrument cluster, for example. In order to reliably write some SO8 EEPROM devices encountered in automotive circuits a +5VDC supply and programming voltage, rather than the default +3.3VDC, is required. This particular inexpensive programmer can be easily modified for this automotive module voltage requirement and allow for doubling the number of supported devices in doing so as well (from 2 to 4 EEPROM families) as shown in this video. While not all SO8 EEPROM devices can be written, or even read, in-circuit of automotive module circuit designs many can, and for those that cannot this programmer can still provide a very inexpensive DIY solution for light duty repair projects off circuit as well. These inexpensive programmers lack the over current protection or pin protection of most general purpose programmers, which allows them to be used for in-circuit reading and writing as well as off circuit for many (though not all) automotive modules. *NOTE: In order to read 93Sxxx security devices you will have to explicitly connect pin 7 (PRE) to ground (pull low) rather than leave it floating like I showed for 93CXXX devices.* *CH341A USB to Serial Device Driver* Here is a link to the Microsoft Windows specific USB serial device driver from the actual manufacturer of the CH341A chip that forms the heart of this particular black edition EEPROM programmer: 🤍 *AsProgrammer EEPROM Application Software* The only reliable programmer software I have found to work with this Black Edition CH341A for 93XXX and 95XXX support, as well as retaining the 24XXX and 25XXX series, is a more recent private fork version of the open source AsProgrammer project (which is for Microsoft Windows). So when I was messing around with the B450 Aorus M, I didn't think it would allow me to flash old BIOSs to test with. It actually did, so I never really needed this widget - but anyway here's a video showing how I used a USB EEPROM programmer to flash two blank BIOS chips with a backup of the factory chip. Now I have the means to fully recover a mobo that's BIOS bricked and does not have flashback. KIND OF INTERESTING.

Important Update! Check out 3.3v voltage fix for this device. It can help to prevent possible use issues like with reading or programming a target BIOS chip, or in the worst case prevent possible damage to the target device: 🤍 So some time ago I was messing around with BIOS modding and BIOS files. I was trying to give unique names to old 775 motherboards and accidentally broke my backup ASUS P5E3 Premium motherboard. As the motherboard has only single BIOS chip and it is a soldered one, and no BIOS flashback utility the ways to get it working again are quite limited. The motherboard does have some built-in recovery thingy but I couldn't get it to work. So the easiest way to fix a motherboard like that is to obtain an external BIOS flashing tool. Popular ones that I know of are the CH341A that is easily available from China like from eBay for example, or Elmor EVC2. I got the CH341A earlier so used that one in this case. The external tool connects to the target BIOS chip with SOIC8 test clips that are quite hard to attach correctly. You need a separate computer to flash the target BIOS chip with. I recommend using a laptop and the NeoProgrammer tool I discovered at the end of this project. The flashing procedure might take a while so don't get confused if it is slow. Instructions on how to modify the conventional 5V USBasp to function both at 3.3V and 5V. Written instructions can be found at this link: 🤍 I made a half-size Arduboy with 500 games stored on a 3.3V serial flash. To simplify the circuit and reduce the foot print, I converted the ATMega32U4 micro-controller to work at 3.3V instead of 5V. A boot loader that works with serial flash need to be loaded to the ATMega32U4 using an USBasp programmer. However, the conventional USBasp programmer on the market all works at 5V only. Though some USBasp advertised that target voltage can be selected by jumper for 3.3V or 5V, most of the ones on the market can only switched the VCC pins's voltage level but not that of the TTL signal pins such as MISO/MOSI/Reset/SCK within the ICSP connectors. From the community forums of Arduboy, I learnt that the USBasp can be modified to switch jumpers to select between 3.3V and 5V to match the voltage levels of the microcontrollers that you need to program to, both on VCC pins and also on the other ICSP pins. However, my version of the boards were not covered in those instructions. I looked at the schematics and decided to try my luck to modify my version of the USBasp board. I hope to share my journey so you can also modify your own version of the USBasp board to work at 3.3V and 5V.
In this video I'll show you how you can very simply correct when the hardware self test failure for a red edition UPA-USB V1.3 programmer clone shows a Test3, Test5, and/or Test7 failed message(s). These tests fail only because the measured voltage on P1 during the test was below the minimum voltage specification for the test. This is something anyone can correct themselves with only a small Phillips screwdriver by making a very small adjustment to the voltage regulator circuit built into the programmers printed circuit board (PCB). New Second channel: 🤍 The CH341a Mini Programmer is a super cheap BIOS chip programmer that I've wanted to cover for a while now, but there's a problem with it. While the chip socket is powered at the correct 3.3v, the _data lines_ are pulled up to 5v, which is way too hot. Modifications to run the controller chip off of the 3.3v rail are fairly straight forward, and fix the problem completely. The product ULTI-ISP is a project and a continuation based on the work of Thomas Fischl, Fabio Baltieri. The keen scope of this product is to combine the powers to program AVR and 8051 inside a small programming tool, which is now called as "ULTI-ISP" (ULTImate-In-System-Programmer). The product is made over the V-USB platform. The hardware is a pure work from Fabio Baltieri. He designed the hardware in such a way that you can even place it in your key-chain. The ULTI-ISP can be used to program a wide range of AVR microcontrollers as well as 8051 series. The device can be used to read, write and erase flash memory, EEPROM, Fuse Bits. The product has two programming speed modes. It can be self-programmed by any other AVR Programmer or by another ULTI-ISP using 6pin IDC Cable. Another external header can be used to supply power to the target device. The ULTI-ISP includes an on-board AVR ATMega8 which deals with all the USB transactions and provides the data to the target device needed to program it. A standard 6 pin IDC ISP cable can be used to program the target device. The two indicators are used to reflect the ULTI-ISP status, one is for power and another is for programming status. The software "ProgISP" can be used to program the devices using ULTI-ISP tool. Finally, the whole project is open-source you can add up and implement your design over it, to further improve it.

Anyway with that out of the way, this entire project is based on the ArduinoISP example sketch included with the Arduino IDE, the ATMEGA328P and the CH340G, a usb to serial chip.
