Welcome to the town split by the Canada/U.S.A. Canusa Street is the only part of the United States-Canada border that runs down the middle of a street. This Bizarre border separates Beebe Plain, Vermont, from Stanstead, Quebec. Join Alice and Tommy T as they show you Canusa Street and the only International Library split between two countries. Haskell Free Library and Opera House that straddles the border in Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec. #travel #insights #border #information #news #canada #usa #canadanews Locals claim that a group of drunken surveyors, when given the task of determining the United States–Canada border line in the region (nominally at 45.00°N), decided to place the border right through the center of the village along what is now Canusa Street. On the current cadastral graphic matrix however, the border line is drawn along the southern border to the street, suggesting that it is entirely located within Canada. At the west end of Canusa Street is the Beebe Plain–Beebe Border Crossing. Immediately facing the customs houses, located at the end of the street, is a solid granite line house. This building (built as a store in the 1820s) was for a time the world's only international post office. It had one postmaster, but two doors and two postal counters, each serving customers from a different country. A line house is a building located so that an international boundary passes through it. There are several such buildings that exist along the U.S.–Canada border like the Haskell Free Library and Opera House straddles the border in Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec. In addition, several private homes divided between Beebe Plain, Quebec and Beebe Plain, Vermont LIKE/SHARE/SUBSCRIBE 🤍HowToHaveFunOutdoors.com © How To Have Fun Outdoors. All Rights Reserved. Two picturesque towns along the Canada-U.S. border are fighting for the right to bubble together. They straddle the Alaska-B.C. border and are separated by a clear-cut line and a COVID travel ban. But in many ways the two communities are as one, and rely heavily on each other. Briar Stewart shows how people there are working together even as they're apart.
A U.S. immigration lawyer says a 205-year-old treaty is giving Canadians free access to the American side of Peace Arch Historical State Park — despite a park closure aimed to prevent the spread of coronavirus across the border.
In this edition of Life On The Beat W/ Nasty Nathanial I going right up the US/Canada border. Today I am heading to a place called Peach Arch Park which is split in half by the US/Canadian border which separates Blaine, Washington and Surrey, British Columbia. Here there are no walls, no fences, and no razor wire. Only a ditch that separates the United States and Canada. But when your's truly steps over international boundary he finds himself coming into contact with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. But will this RCMP officer respect my constitutional rights under both US and Canadian law to record in public? Watch and see. Just south of Vancouver, Canada, there is a road that was illegal for you to cross at the time of the filming of this video. And yes, you could still do that, but breaking the law does not bring severe ramifications (it seemed like). I will take you to Peace Arch's 0th avenue and Point Roberts across Boundary Bay to show you how the COVID-19 brought severe issues to the border between United States and Canada.
A new fence is under construction between Lynden, Wash., and Abbotsford, B.C. According to U.S. Border Patrol, it will deter threats posed by "dangerous criminal enterprises" attempting to cross from both directions. In the post 9/11 world of increased security, a place like this shouldn't exist. In East Richford, Vermont E. Richford Slide Road starts in the United States, dips north into Quebec, Canada and then returns to the U.S. All without a border crossing. You can't just cross the border illegally here...the Border Patrol are everywhere.

Peace Arch Park may be one of the most unusual places in the world. It sits on the USA-Canada Border, and spans the two countries. There is also a portion of the park which is bordered by Canada on the north by only a ditch between the two countries. Stepping across the ditch to Canada is an illegal border crossing for US citizens. At the center of the park is the Peace Arch Monument. It is situated near the westernmost point of the Canada–United States border in the contiguous United States, between the communities of Blaine, Washington and Surrey, British Columbia. Construction of the 20.5-meter (67 ft) tall arch was headed by American lawyer Sam Hill and dedicated in September 1921. Drive southbound on rue Principale in Standstead to rue Canusa Street along part of the border, and eventually arriving at the Haskell Free Library which divided by the border. Note: where I paused speaking, that is near the US customs and immigration border checkpoint. I did park next to a fire hydrant beside the library.

On Canusa Avenue, houses on one side of the street are in the USA, but on the other side they are in Canada. Its a spot favored by illegal immigrants, and authorities are taking notice. The US is planning to build a wall on the street, and they've already installed a customs post. Duration: 01:50
