Time to tackle a big subject - how to clean your menstrual cup in public. No, it doesn't involve ever leaving the privacy of your bathroom stall! I'm sharing 5 easy options to choose from when you're on your period and need to empty your cup in public. These tips also apply to reusable menstrual discs, but I've included some additional advice for these products as well. My favorite method? Skip cleaning entirely! Just remove the cup, empty contents, and re-insert. You can wash at home later. Did I run around town (and Germany) to film various bathrooms over the course of a few weeks? Yes. Yes I did. Could these shots have been better if I weren't terrified of public humiliation? Also yes. Short of perfect shots I had to use an iPhone and go for "the best camera is the one you have with you" approach to videography. I tried TEN period products in 2022 but which was the best and which was the worst? To be totally honest there wasn't a true loser in the bunch if I'm judging them by how they worked for me. Even the "worst" cup on my list worked pretty well and didn't leak, it was the length that caused my issues. This list was a total surprise to me with the exception of the top product of the year. Some of my favorite brands ended up low on the list while brands I'm not exactly a cheerleader for were closer to the top. This list is JUST for fun and while I did review my own source material it's not a scientific list ranked to perfection. One product ranked pretty low this year was a product that used to work better for me in previous years so it's another case of showcasing how bodies can change! Also, this video started with 56 minutes of footage. I trimmed to 40 minutes and thought it was going to be the longest video i ever posted. Then I edited over and over again, cut out the times I said things again and again because I repeat myself, removed some things that just weren't adding much value, and ended up coming in at a respectable 23 minutes but didn't think to change the opener because it was not, in fact, the longest video ever after all. Menstrual cups come in sizes that are determined primarily by their diameter at the rim (expand for links and more info) There are guidelines that brands will offer for you to pick which size is best for you but these guidelines are not rules, and there are other factors to consider. Do not pick a cup just for more capacity unless the other features work for you. Sizing by flow is not a thing. If the cup doesn't fit it doesn't matter how much it holds. If at all possible, don't buy a cup until you've measured your cervix height, if the cup is too long it's never going to be a good fit. Remember to ask yourself these questions in the video while shopping for your cup or simply take the quiz on periodnirvana.com. Is it perfect? No! An online quiz can never be 100% It will get you much closer to the right cup for you and rule out the cups that are not a good fit.
