You're well on your way to becoming a taiko rhythm champion! Follow on-screen instructions~ Or here.. For those of you who are not familiar, Taiko no Tatsujin is a Taiko Drum rhythm game made by Namco, that involves the simulation of playing the drums to the beat of the music. In osu!, beatmaps can be played in the styling of Taiko no Tatsujin through use of the specal Taiko game mode. Like basic osu!, there are three elements of gameplay: 1 - The standard beat This will appear as either a reddish orange or a pale-blue circle. If it is a reddish orange circle, you must press one of the buttons bound to the inner portion of the Taiko drum (left mouse button, or alternatively, one of the keys configured in the options menu which is displayed at the start of the map in the upper left). For blue notes, you must press the right mouse button or one of the keys for the outer ring of the drum. The notes must be pressed when they reach the small circle next to the drum in the status bar on the playfield. If the note is a LARGE circle, you may press BOTH of your inner or outer drum keys (depending on the colour of the note) for additional points. 2 - Drum rolls These appear as yellow bars. You gain points for playing many notes to the beat of the song. 3 - Dendens These appear as spinners, with a countdown displaying the time you have remaining to clear it. You must press the keys for Orange and Blue in alternation until the Denden is clear. The default controls for the Taiko mod are: Orange: Left Mouse, X, C Blue: Right Mouse, Z, V You may configure the keyboard buttons as you see fit, from the Input tab in the Options menu. Note: The position of your osu! cursor does not matter, when playing beatmaps in Taiko game mode.

Taiko no Tatsujin 太鼓の達 The Taiko drumming game gets its roots from playing the musical drum, which is a popular thing that is played in Japan. The arcade version of the game is a 1-2 player game consisting of two big taiko drums and a large screen. Each player has its own drum and two drum sticks. The game can also be played as a one player game where you use one of the drums. I have seen people that are really good at this game using both drums to play, there may be a setting for the game which allows one person to play two drums at once. It’s nothing that I have ever looked for since the menus are all in Japanese. We normally just keep to the basic game play, of one vs. one mode. A typical game consists of three songs, with most songs having different grades of difficulty. In two player mode you both can choose your own difficulty level while playing the same song. Object of the game The drum has two parts that can be hit with the drum sticks, the main section of the drum and the outer rim of the drum. On the screen you will see symbols moving across the screen and when they go past the left handside of the screen you hit the drum in the way that corresponds to the symbol. Small red faces mean one hit of the centre of the drum and the small blue face means you the outer side side of the drum. The drum strikes will go in rhymthm to the music that you’ve chosen to play to. There are also other variation of symbols, like a big red or blue face, which means you hit the drum with both sticks at once. Versions of the game The game has been released on many different platforms, like Playstation, Nintendo wii and iOS devices. A review of the iOS version of the game will becoming soon to the blog. There have been many releases in Japan with updates, like new music etc. The game has also been released once in North America, going by the name of “Taiko: Drum Master” and is available as a Playstation 2 game, which came out 2004. The nature of the game being you are playing a Japanese drum makes the main market target of the game is Japan. The main mascots of the drums is Don who has the red face icon and Kat that has the blue face icon. There are also other colourful face icons that appear, like the yellow one and the red one, but the main mascots are the red and blue face icons. Products in the shape of drums with the colourful faces are available, like Happy Meal toys, plush toys and so on. The music is normally a mixture of j-pop songs, classical music, children’s songs and songs made just for game use.

Found this while sorting through my mom's old memory cards. A couple fun notes about the video/event: 1. It's my mom's video recording, so that's who you hearing cheering behind the camera from time to time. 2. The Buckeye Invitational is one of the OSUMB's favorite events of the year because the crowd is mostly all marching band members or parents. The high school bands get to perform during the day and the OSUMB does the final performance for everyone attending. It's always such a fun and receptive audience. Also, this particular Buckeye Invitational had to have been around 85 degrees when we went on (in mid-October), and because the band does the Ramp Entrance straight into a full halftime show straight into Script Ohio, it's a marathon for the ages of marching band stamina. 3. My hometown high school marching band (Howland High School) got to perform in the event for the first time ever and was in the crowd for our performance that night, so that made the event really special. 4. This show was one of my favorites of the year. The music was great, and the props and narrative of the show were awesome. I asked Dr. Hoch if I could step into the ring during "The Boxer", and he said to go for it. One of my favorite renditions of popular music the OSUMB has ever done. 5. You can see from the recording my facial expressions would get a little, uh, intense from time to time during a performance. Partly involuntary, part of the character of the position, and also part of being in the moment living your dream. Gotta give it your all! Hope you enjoy the performance!
