Photographing the Orion Nebula! The Orion Nebula is one of the brightest nebulae in the night sky and is visible to the naked eye. It lies 1,500 light-years away from Earth and can be found just south of Orion's belt in the constellation Orion. This magnitude 4 interstellar cloud of ionized atomic hydrogen contains a young open cluster of four primary stars known as the Trapezium. M42 is a fantastic beginner astrophotography subject to capture with your DSLR camera and telescope. The final image includes 45 x 4-minutes in h-alpha, and 40 x 2-minutes in broadband RGB. I also applied a subtle layer of existing data (shorter RGB exposures) to blend into the core. M42 is a huge, bright nebula, located in the constellation Orion, you can see this deep space object with binoculars. This video includes instructions for locating M42 in the night sky. Earth From Space Live Video: 🤍 Amazing astronomy video showing ESO’s HAWK-I infrared instrument on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile which has been used to peer deeper into the heart of Orion Nebula than ever before. The spectacular picture reveals about ten times as many brown dwarfs and isolated planetary-mass objects than were previously known. This discovery poses challenges for the widely accepted scenario for Orion’s star formation history. An international team has made use of the power of the HAWK-I infrared instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) to produce the deepest and most comprehensive view of the Orion Nebula  to date. Not only has this led to an image of spectacular beauty, but it has revealed a great abundance of faint brown dwarfs and isolated planetary-mass objects. Orion Nebula HDR Photoshop Tutorial To produce an astrophotography image of the Orion Nebula with a high dynamic range, it is best to blend a set of varying exposure lengths together. In this video, I combine an image set of 3-minute exposures (stacked) at ISO 800, with a set of 10-second exposures. This helps to reveal the subtle details of the bright core of the Orion Nebula. This is a journey through the cosmic scale of the Universe to The Orion Nebula. A wonder in the depths of space that can be seen with our eyes alone, hiding in the constellation of Orion, looking like a star. When I was a kid I couldn't believe a star in the constellation I was always looking at, Orion, wasn't actually a star. It led me to want to learn more about the Universe beyond the stars and I hope this film can do a little of that for others too. It took me about 6 months to make this, my 2nd video about the Universe and even longer to make the 1st! If you haven't already, do please take a look at my first video where I shrank the Universe down, then turned it into cereal, so that its titanic size makes more sense, plus who doesn't want to eat the Universe with some milk? Fortunately I'm getting faster at making these and hope to make the next one in 2 months rather than 6, then hopefully I'll be able to make them at a once a month speed after that. I've been teaching myself VFX from scratch for a little over a year with Blender, a wonderful, powerful (and free!) programme, so that I could make these films. I'm a filmmaker and director of photography as my day job and I've wanted to make videos about Space for ages but just didn't have the VFX skills, so my journey with Blender over the last 14 months has been amazing, I'd highly recommend it. This tutorial will show beginner astrophotographers how to quickly and efficiently process the Orion Nebula, Messier 42. This will focus on a stack of images that are all the same length (in the case of this video, 30 seconds). The core of the Orion Nebula is blown out in the vast majority of astroimages, which is just fine. Here I show a simple way to tone down the overexposed core, while retaining detail. There are definitely more advanced processing methods. This is just a basic guide for those getting started. I'm fortunate to live in dark skies, so I don't have to do much processing of my astroimages. In this video i use a smartphone, a smartphone adapter and a pair of 10x50 binoculars to image Messier 42, the Orion Nebula. I'll explain how to attach the camera to the binoculars, how to setup a camera app to control exposure, speed and file format, and how to use multiple frames to make a single image of the nebula. I used a pair of Celestron Upclose G2 binoculars and the ProCam 8 smartphone camera app. It's an unusual form of digiscoping, but it works with a little careful setup and practice. Note: The ProCam app is only available for iPhones but there are many good camera apps for Android phones including HD Camera Pro.

In one of the most detailed astronomical images ever produced, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope is offering an unprecedented look at the Orion Nebula. This turbulent star-formation region is one of astronomy's most dramatic and photogenic celestial objects. This crisp image reveals a tapestry of star formation, from the dense pillars of gas and dust that may be the homes of fledgling stars to the hot, young, massive stars that have emerged from their gas-and-dust cocoons and are shaping the nebula with their powerful ultraviolet light. The new picture reveals large-scale structures never seen before, according to C. Robert O'Dell of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, USA "Only with the Hubble Space Telescope can we begin to understand them," O'Dell said. In a mosaic containing a billion pixels, Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) uncovered 3,000 stars of various sizes. Some of them have never been spied in visible light. Some are merely 1/100 the brightness of stars seen previously in the nebula. Among the stars Hubble spotted are possible young brown dwarfs, the first time these objects have been seen in the Orion Nebula in visible light. Brown dwarfs are so-called "failed stars." These cool objects are too small to be ordinary stars because they cannot sustain nuclear fusion in their cores the way our Sun does. The Hubble Space Telescope also spied for the first time a small population of possible binary brown dwarfs - two brown dwarfs orbiting each other. I used my Celestron RASA 8-inch telescope and ZWO ASI533MC one-shot-color (OSC) camera to capture the Orion Nebula. The Orion Nebula is situated in the Milky Way, being south of Orion's Belt (it makes up part of the sword) in the constellation of Orion. The nebula can be seen with the naked eye and looks like a star. It's 1,350 light-years from Earth. Can you get a decent photo of a nebula like M42 out of just a single exposure without stacking? I didn't think so but I tried and was quite surprised. Sure the result is not super clean but surprisingly good with no stacking and fancy processing and on top of that - shot under light polluted city sky (Bortle 7).
