Part 1 of the diagnosis and repair of the Mitsubishi i-miev, Peugeot Ion , Citreon C-Zero, DC to DC converter failure, this seams to be a known issue with these vehicles, and can cost many thousands of dollars to replace, but with some basic mechanical skills, and some soldering of new parts, we managed to repair ours for just $20. the cost of 2 capacitors, and a fuse from Mitsubishi, the fuse was $15. Part 2 when i recover the footage will cover the actual replacement of the capacitors. When this fails, the car will fail to charge from AC power, though it will still drive and operate normally, only showing 2 errors on the instruments, 1 of the High voltage system, and the 12 volt system. i believe you can still charge from DC via the Chademo port, though i did not try this.

Part 2 of our i-miev DC-DC converter repair, this part is the replacing the blown capacitors themselves, starting with disassembly of the converter, removing the main circuit board, removing and installing the new caps, then reassembly. part of the repair involved a test of a small relay, that can fail if tested incorrectly, more info on this can be found here 🤍 fortunately, the relay on our converter was ok. Another failed component is the fuse on top of the motor controller, we used a temporary Solar panel fuse of the same spec to test while we waited for the genuine part to arrive from Mitsubishi. Once installed, car reassembled, a reverse of Part 1, the car worked fine, and has worked fine ever since. I am aware that the component can fail in differeing ways, but this was how we fixed ours, and the cost of repair was less than $50, and took a single weekend to complete. When this fails, the car will fail to charge from AC power, though it will still drive and operate normally, only showing 2 errors on the instruments, 1 of the High voltage system, and the 12 volt system. i believe you can still charge from DC via the Chademo port, though i did not try this.

This video describes how to fix a stiff gear shift, which also results in the gear selector display flashing and the electric motor error light coming on. The reason is that the gear selector gets rusted and stiff under the car.
The gearbox oil needs changing every 5 years or 62,500 miles. Its a 10 minute job. Oil for the gearbox is ATF SP III, such as TRIPLE QX ATF Plus Transmission Fluid 1 Litre from EuroCarParts. 🤍 Please note: On later models (I've just done this job a late 2015 iOn) the drain plug now needs a Torx T55. Euro NCAP is releasing the first test results of fully electric car: the Mitsubishi i-Miev, which marks the start of a series of electric vehicle tests planned throughout the year 2011. As testing electric vehicles is new to Euro NCAP, additional preparations and precautions are taken while testing the cars in the laboratories to ensure safety before, during and after testing for all persons involved. Electric vehicles should meet the same safety standards as other conventional vehicles. Euro NCAP tests plug-in vehicles with live batteries at laboratories with specially-trained personnel, but the cars are exposed to the same testing conditions as other cars in the programme. The vehicles undergo the full scale tests including frontal, side, pedestrian, pole and ESC tests. However, during preparation, service plugs of the car are removed and extra fire-fighting measures are taken to ensure the safety of laboratory staff and equipment. The European New Car Assessment Programme is publishing the results of the Mitsubishi i-Miev; its 4-star star rating demonstrates that electric cars can be as safe as others. However, Euro NCAP hopes to see an electric vehicle achieve the maximum five star rating soon. The i-MiEV shares its rating with its twin models, the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot iOn, which have the same design and safety equipment. Euro NCAP welcomes the push for green but safe cars on the European market and is informing consumers of future tests on electric vehicles in the coming months.
