The name of the island comes from former French Governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais, although the original name for the island was the "Ile d'Abondance", or the "Island of Abundance". Although barely visible on most world maps, Mahé offers 154 km² (59 sq. miles) of space, is 28 km (17 miles) long, 8 km (5 miles) wide, and is home to the smallest capital city in the world, Victoria. Those who wish to explore the island to find their own quiet spot should make sure that they are in reasonably good shape and bring along sturdy footwear on their holiday. Thanks to the well-developed road network, those less willing to walk around can traverse the island using public buses, taxis, or rental cars. Mahé is beautiful, allowing you to witness natural growth up close. Our journey starts with a four hour flight from Abu Dhabi to Seychelles. After arriving at the airport, we had a 25 minute ride to the hotel. We stayed at Avani Barbarons Seychelles Resort and Spa located at Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles. Mahe Island, Seychelles Sunset Beach From my Trip to Seychelles, Day 2. Short Clips showing a quite well hidden little Beach near Beau Vallon - ˝Sunset Beach˝. The entrance to the Beach is easy to miss and a Parking spot near the road is also extremely hard to find. The Sunset Beach is located on the west coast of Mahé, near the northern tip of the island. The shallow, calm water here is great for a number of activities, and is perfectly safe for children and unconfident swimmers, making this a great beach for families, as well as for couples or solo travellers who can come to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the excellent swimming conditions. The scenery that greets you at Sunset Beach is typical of the Seychelles: golden sand, clear, inviting water, and impressive palm trees are all present here, making for a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon in the sun or in the shade. The shallow water also lends itself particularly well to swimming or snorkelling, while it is also possible to go scuba diving or kayaking here. All in all, Sunset Beach is an excellent little beach on Mahé which possesses a number of different features that will appeal to all kinds of holidaymaker.
