As well as showing you the differences between the two MagBoxes, I also show you photographs taken with each one in the same situation so you can see the difference. The diffusion panel is identical in terms of result but the difference between the focus diffuser on the original MagBox 24 and the Magnetic Grid on the new MagBox Pro 24 is huge. The Magmod Magbox Pro is a grip and light modifier system universally compatible as speedlight softboxes. The system is an ideal flash setup for wedding photography, and portrait photography. Magmod sent me their new series of softbox modifiers - the Magbox Pro lineup to review ahead of their Kickstarter announcement. This includes the Magbox Pro 42" Octa, the Magbox Pro 36" Strip, and the redesigned Magbox Pro 24" Octa. There is also a Magshoe 2, an updated Magshoe necessary to handle the added size of the larger softboxes. Magmod Magbox Pro Kickstarter 🤍 In my review video of the original Magbox, I really enjoyed the design, but ultimately decided I was unlikely to use it with the limitation of only one softbox size, as I am regularly using different sized softboxes for different qualities of light. Now that there are two additional sizes I think it is a much improved system that wedding photographers, portrait photographers, and headshot photographers will enjoy. The design of the Pro has gone through significant changes. The magnetic diffusion on the original is gone, and has been replaced with a zippered outer diffusion that can be stowed away in a pocket behind one of the reflective inner panels. Instead of diffusion, the magnets on the outside now hold a honeycomb grid. While you lose the benefit of increased output like on the original focus diffuser, this grid is much easier to take on and off when compared to a velcro grid that is on other softboxes. Also the focus diffuser would be incredibly expensive on larger designs so I think the honeycomb grid style is more appropriate. With the added sizes I think there is now a bigger benefit to the overall design, including the easy open mechanism, the fast gels, and easily changing softboxes. The Magmod Magring for Magbox is an alternative method of mounting the Magmox to lights. In fact, unlike my previous video where I mounted the Magmox to my Godox strobes which are a Bowens mount, this Magring is meant for two small strobes.
