Lamborghini Revuelto: the first super sports V12 hybrid HPEV In the marque’s 60th anniversary year, Automobili Lamborghini presents Revuelto[1], the first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle). Revuelto defines a new paradigm in terms of performance, sportiness and driving pleasure from its unprecedented new architecture; innovative design; maximum-efficiency aerodynamics; and a new carbon frame concept. An output of 1015 CV is delivered from the combined power of an entirely new combustion engine together with three electric motors, alongside a double-clutch gearbox that makes its debut on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini for the first time. The powertrain combines high specific power elements: the new 127 CV/liter combustion engine works synergically with two front axial flux motors that deliver an outstanding weight-to-power ratio, with a radial flux electric motor positioned above the first eight-speed double-clutch gearbox debuting on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini. The three electric motors are powered by a lithium-ion high specific power (4500 W/kg) battery pack that also supports a fully-electric drive mode. Powertrain and Layout The car showcases an unprecedented layout and powertrain: the naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 mid-mounted engine is complemented by three electric motors, one of which is integrated into the new double-clutch eight-speed gearbox. This is mounted transversely and placed for the first time behind the combustion engine. In what has been the transmission tunnel since the days of the Countach, there is a lithium-ion battery instead, which powers the electric motors. The electric motors boost power delivery at low revs and can also turn the new Revuelto into a purely electric car, reducing overall CO2 emissions by 30%[2] compared to the Aventador Ultimae. A unique architecture Lamborghini has been synonymous with V12 engines since the company was founded. The very first Lamborghini model to sport this characteristic engine was the iconic 350GT launched in 1963. The first time that an electric motor was matched to a 12-cylinder internal combustion engine in a Lamborghini was in 2019 with the Sián, which used a 25 kW electric engine to support the previous generation of V12, storing the electrical energy in a supercapacitor. The Revuelto introduces an unprecedented hybrid architecture and a new generation of V12. The car is launched as the very first High Performance Electrified Vehicle - HPEV: a plug-in hybrid super sports car equipped with a lightweight high-power lithium ion battery, housed within the transmission tunnel in the central section of the chassis. It’s an innovative solution, designed to reduce emissions compared to the previous V12 while maximizing performance. The new L545 engine has a capacity of 6.5 liters and is the lightest and most powerful 12-cylinder engine ever made by Lamborghini. In total it weighs just 218 kilograms: 17 kilograms less than the Aventador unit. The Revuelto features the engine rotated through 180 degrees compared to the Aventador layout. The superquadro V12 puts out 825 CV at 9250 revs per minute thanks to the redesigned distribution system that supports a maximum rev range of 9500 rpm. Specific power is 127 CV per liter, the highest output in the history of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder engines, while maximum torque is 725 Nm at 6750 rpm.
Here it is, the long awaited Aventador replacement. It is, inevitably, a plug-in hybrid, but it’s one that takes the possibilities of the format and does wild and wonderful things with it. We’re talking a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, aided by three electric motors, two of which are mounted on the front axle, the third integrated into the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. All of that means the Revuelto is good for a total power output of 1,001bhp, a top speed of 217mph and 0-62mph in just 2.5 seconds. Thanks: MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE CARS 🤍 🤍 2022 Lamborghini Aventador Starting at $507.353 Highs Still looks exotic after all these years, V-12 pulls at our heartstrings, drives like a big ballet dancer. Lows Transmission can be tough to tolerate, removing the roadster's roof is a hassle, cabin storage is almost nonexistent. Verdict The final Aventador is a flamboyant, loud, and positively glorious hyper car. Overview With a raucous 769-hp V-12 engine and an exotic exterior, the 2022 Lamborghini Aventador is the definition of a hyper car. While competitors such as the Ferrari SF90 embrace an electrified future, the Lambo's 12-cylinder mill swills fuel like a frat bro chugs a beer. Its scissor doors, wide and low proportions, and heavily vented bodywork double as a theater on wheels that's perpetually playing the Fast and Furious movies. Inside, its highly customizable cabin has room for two riders, but there's very little space to store loose items. Behind the wheel, the driver can activate the Aventador's shrieking soundtrack with a stab of their right foot or experience the massive machine's surprising agility by twirling the tiller. While its obsolete automatic transmission is almost as frustrating as the roadster's cumbersome roof removal, those are but a small penance for the 2022 Aventador's otherwise awesome powers and unmistakable style. What's New for 2022? We've been predicting the end of the Aventador for some time now, and it looks like the 2022 model year will be its last. To celebrate the end of an era, Lamborghini is building a limited number (600 units globally) of a specially equipped Aventador it's calling the Ultimae. This ultimate send-off features a tuned-up version of its ubiquitous V-12 engine as well as weight-saving techniques that make it lighter than the outgoing Aventador S. The Ultimae will also send more torque to the rear wheels than the S, have standard carbon-ceramic brakes, and it'll have some unique, albeit subtle, visual details. Pricing and Which One to Buy Ultimae coupe: $507,353 Ultimae roadster: $550,542 A limited number of Ultimae models will be built, with 350 copies of the coupe and 250 of the roadster to be sold around the globe. Regardless of the official six-figure asking price, we want the roadster so we can fully immerse ourselves in the intoxicating soundtrack of its V-12. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The Aventador powertrain features a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 that develops 769 horsepower. The engine's 531 pound-feet of torque makes its way to all four wheels via a seven-speed automated-manual transmission. Although we haven't driven the Ultimae version, we have driven the brutally powerful, track-focused SVJ (which stands for Superveloce Jota) and its roofless counterpart and experienced their tremendous acceleration and kidney-crushing cornering forces. The hefty machines heaved through the corners, but their incredible grip and four-wheel-steering systems helped them change direction on a dime. We have also driven the Aventador S and Aventador S roadster and found the latter's top-down ability makes it the better car for listening to the V-12's thrilling timbre. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG With fuel-economy ratings in the single digits, the Aventador ranks among the least efficient cars on the market. We haven't had the opportunity to test the government's estimates on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which simulates real-world mpg and is part of our extensive testing regimen. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo In typical Lamborghini fashion, every Aventador supports a set of scissor doors that swing open. The low-slung interior is showing its age, but it can be fitted with a variety of premium materials and personalized options. The cabin won't hold many small items, and luggage space is limited. The dashboard features a digital gauge cluster that changes its layout whenever you select a new drive mode—Strada, Sport, and Corsa; Ego mode allows you to personalize the settings for powertrain, steering, and suspension. Infotainment and Connectivity The Aventador's standard infotainment system is behind the times, with dated graphics and awkward integration. In addition to voice commands and Apple CarPlay capability, the company offers a performance data recorder that saves lap times and track data.
