Sabah's largest ethnic group, the KadazanDusun and their traditional dance is called Sumazau which literally means 'dancing'. Sumazau is synonymous with festivities and celebrations such as weddings and especially the Pesta Kaamatan or Harvest Festival, which is a thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest of rice. The accompanying music is played by the sompogogungan ensemble consisting of six hanging gongs and a drum.

Sabah Borneo. Penduduk Sabah terdiri daripada 33 kumpulan pribumi yang berkomunikasi dalam lebih 50 bahasa dan 80 dialek etnik. Kadazan-Dusun adalah kumpulan etnik yang terbesar di Sabah yang membentuk hampir 30% daripada keseluruhan jumlah penduduk. Pesta Menuai yang disambut pada 30 & 31 Mei setiap tahun adalah percutian yang amat diraikan oleh etnik Kadazan-Dusun bagi menghormati Roh Beras dan untuk bersyukur di atas tuaian yang banyak. Bajau, atau juga dikenali sebagai 'Koboi Timur', dan Murut, iaitu orang-orang bukit dan pemburu kepala pada masa lalu, adalah kumpulan etnik kedua dan ketiga terbesar di Sabah. Suku kaum lain-lain adalah termasuk suku kaum bumiputera seperti Bisaya, Melayu Brunei, Bugis, Kedayan, Lotud, Ludayeh, Rungus, Suluk, Minokok, Bonggi, Ida'an, dan banyak lagi. Di samping itu, orang Cina juga termasuk dalam kumpulan utama bagi penduduk bukan pribumi.
