The motivation to make the recording of the live performances which became the release ‘Live from Studio S2’ came from the invitation from the Berlinale Film Festival. “I decided to rearrange some of my favourite songs, which I have been performing live for years. Recorded live and captured in the iconic Studio S2, one of the recording studios of Polish Radio in Warsaw. The hall is fully covered with light wood, which reminds me of other Radio Studios all around the world - like Funkhaus in Berlin for example. There is a kind of intimacy when playing the little piano in this huge and also very high venue.” — 🤍haniaranimusic “In the beginning of February 2021, I was asked to record a live set as a part of EFM sessions, which are the part of the Festival. I thought that bringing back my piano and equipment to the hall where I recorded my live session videos for my debut album 'Esja' would be a nice idea and the right cinematic choice. The iconic Studio S2 is one of the recording studios of Polish Radio in Warsaw. The hall is fully covered with light wood, which reminds me of other Radio Studios all around the world - like Funkhaus in Berlin. It felt very special to be in the hall where we recorded a video for "Glass", one of my most liked videoclips. #HANIARANI #PIANODAY Il suffit de quelques notes à 🤍haniaranimusic pour toucher au coeur. Un petit miracle constamment renouvelé, comme le montre son concert pour le Piano Day. Hania Rani est née en Pologne et partage aujourd’hui sa vie entre Varsovie et Berlin. La pianiste compose entre ces deux villes une musique subtile et sensible qui rappelle autant Philip Glass qu’Erik Satie. Ce style très personnel nous avait envoûtés d’emblée lors de de notre première rencontre avec la jeune femme, à l’occasion de l’édition 2019 du festival ESNS (aka Eurosonic Noorderslag) au Pays-Bas. Si à l’époque Hania Rani était aux prémices d’une reconnaissance internationale, elle est maintenant l’une des pianistes néoclassiques les plus en vue du moment : certaines de ses performances comptabilisant plusieurs millions de vues sur Youtube. Difficile il est vrai de rester insensible face au caractère bouleversant et universel de sa musique. Le limpide piano de Hania Rani irrigue une discographie composée de cinq albums : Biała Flaga, Esja, Home, Music For Film And Theatre et Inner Symphonies (composé à quatre mains avec la violoncelliste Dobrawa Czocher, une amie d’enfance). I asked each dancer to give a personal interpretation of Hania's song. We were very lucky to succeed in this insane artistic performance despite the great cold (minus 7 celsius), it was such a moment of truth." – 🤍Neels Castillon A piece for solo piano, 'F Major' unravels yet further nuances of the instrument's intricate nature and offers more glimpses into Hania's sonic imagination. 'Esja' is out now, stream and buy here: 🤍 Original music by Hania Rani Concept / Photography: Bartek Warzecha Editing / Colour Correction: Marlena Jablonska Sun is a piece from Hania Rani's debut album, Esja, released in April this year by the UK label Gondwana Records. Composed by Hania in Warsaw, it was recorded in Reykjavik with the help of her friend, Bergur Porisson. The footage was captured in November 2018, during the photographer Bartek Warzecha's journey to Crete, an island that seems to naturally exude the same aura that Sun reverberates with. “I've been a visitor to the island for a few years now and have become enamoured by its off-season beauty. It shows a certain kind of diversity which appears to directly correspond with Hania's work”. The video was edited by Marlena Jabłońska, who added the final touch to its concept by reflecting Sun's delicate pulse in the gentle pace of softly flowing images. The resulting narrative resonates with nostalgia for summer, with serene passing of time, as the subtle play of light and shadow becomes the film's very essence. 🤍haniarani.com

This is one of not so many Hania's concerts from 2020. It had taken a place in one of the best concert venues in Poland, NOSPR as opening act of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival on August 27th 2020. It was broadcasted on TV day later and streamed the same year in pay per view form on Rani's label site. I've decided to cut the visual part (because of possible copyright strike) and cut the intro speech and spoken parts between some songs. 'Home' is out now, listen and buy here: 🤍 "Home" is the title track from the upcoming album; hymn-like, its lyrics have become the whole album's leitmotif. "Home" is a composition about the search for a safe place in one's own self and the power of imagination; about life being treated as a journey. It's about the causative power of our thoughts, which can bring down symbolic "walls", like everyday worries, obstacles or fear. It is a hymn of freedom and a hymn of faith — faith of what has left us will return, and faith in new beginnings. A song about hope and finding glimmers of light even in our darkest moments. A sketch of the composition was created in 2017, with the lyrics following at the beginning of 2018. Since then, I have included it in my live concerts, making the song one of the essentials of my body of work. The composition has evolved and matured through the years, appearing in various versions, more and less acoustic. On the album, the song features a richer arrangement, as it breaths new life with a refreshed sprit.
