It’s time for a Supra showdown! We’ve got two modern Supras, the 3-litre and the 2-litre, going up against the Mk4! It’s no surprise that the most powerful car lining up is the 3-litre Mk5. With a 3-litre straight-six under the bonnet, it can produce 340hp and 500Nm of torque. In comparison, the 2-litre can only put down 258hp and 400Nm! So we’re not holding out much hope for the 2-litre! But how about the Mk4? Well it’s also packing a 3-litre straight-six 2JZ, but it's still slightly down on power compared to the Mk5, producing 320hp & 441Nm. But wait! That doesn't necessarily mean it'll just be a clean sweep for the Mk5. We all know by now that the Mk5 Supra is hiding a BMW engine under the bonnet. The question is, does that mean they’ve also brought over BMW’s temperamental launch system?! Mat’s rolled up to the start line a Porsche Cayman GTS, and he’s going head-to-head with an Alpine A110 S & a Toyota Supra! So let’s see how they compare. Starting with Mat’s Cayman GTS, it’s powered by a 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six that puts down 400hp & 420Nm. It weighs in at 1,405kg and will cost you around £65,000. It’s got one big issue though - it’s a manual! Alongside him, we have the Alpine A110 S. Under the bonnet you’ll find a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine, although it’s noticeably down on power compared to the Porsche, putting down 290hp & 320Nm. However, it’s an automatic, and it’s oh-so light, tipping the scales at just 1,114kg! Then finally we have the Supra. With a 3-litre straight-six BMW engine under the bonnet, it’ll produce 340hp & 500Nm, and just like the Alpine, it’s automatic. It’s the heaviest car here, though, weighing 1,495kg. For the true driver's fun it is a bit more enganging choice compared to the automatic! Especially so on these small twisty roads. The gearbox is also much better than the one in BMW Z4. For racetrack driving, we would stick with automatic ZF box though, it is just more efficient.
👋 This is the NEW MK5 A90 Toyota GR Supra! This 2023 Toyota Supra is a fun sportscar to drive and really packs a massive punch from the turbocharged inline 6 cylinder engine! The BMW sourced B58 motor is a joy to drive! The revisions from the original 2020 Supra include a smoother power delivery from better exhaust manifold and turbo housing and gives you a smooth power band and also has the new wheels which I think have a great design to them! The 2023 Supra gets up to speed so easy and the 8 speed automatic shifts so quick and smooth. New for 2023 is also a 6 speed manual option which I hope to drive at some point! The 2023 Supra has clean lines on the exterior with lots of bulges. The interior is pretty simple but feels refined like a BMW and is easy to use. The new 2023 Nissan Z will be a great competitor to the Supra and offer a sporty drive and fun colors. Probably wont be as refined as the Supra, but it comes in at a lower cost. My brother owned a 2020 Supra for 2 years and really enjoyed it, but just sold it to buy the new Z. But we like the revised engine for the new Supra and it really is a great sportscar that can be a fantastic touring car! The 2023 Z will be a great replacement for his old Supra, but he really does still like what the Supra has to offer. 2023 Toyota Surpa exhaust sounded really good too! I think they added back the fun sounds after 2021. Nissan 400z might be a slower car then the new Supra, but both are so cool! Today, I finally get to drive the reborn legend - the Toyota Supra. Released to great fanfare, the car met with very divided opinion. Platform shared with the BMW Z4, and built in Austria, loyal fans felt like this was a betrayal of the Supra's JDM roots.
