GMLRS: The 70 Kilometer Sniper Rifle. The Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) often known as the "70-kilometer sniper rifle," is an all-weather, precision-guided rocket that improves accuracy and reduces the number of rockets required to defeat targets. Technically, the GMLRS Alternative Warhead can engage the same targets and achieve the same area-effects as the old MLRS submunition warheads, but without the lingering danger of unexploded ordnance. Additionally, the GMLRS can fire guided and unguided projectiles at targets as far away as 26 miles. The system also can fire the Army Tactical Missile System at targets as far away as 190 miles.

Ukraine have with great succuess being able to use a few units of the HIMARS and MLRS system to great effect. Russia seems to struggle stopping these attacks with halts their forwards attacks. But Russia has an extensive air defence network, with system like BUK, Thor, Pnatzir and the S-300 and S-400. Lockheed Martin’s Extended-Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, has completed its first systems qualification test. Based on the original Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, HIMARS that has been made famous by its game-changing abilities in Ukraine against Russia, the new Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System is designed to than double the range of HIMARS. Now, this recent test has confirmed that new Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System is officially in the final phases of its development. The test was held, October 6, 2022 at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico where the Extended-Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System round was fired from a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). Developed for the American Army in the late nineteen ninety's the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a light multiple rocket launcher that is installed on a family of medium tactical vehicle. The HIMARS is a lighter version of the M270 and the solution is a fielded, combat tested, highly reliable system that has surpassed all performance standards. The HIMARS is made up of a carrier, the automobile section called the M1140 truck frame and a Fire Control System (FCS) that computes all fire mission data, and a Launcher-Loader Module LLM portion that executes all fire mission-related tasks. The HIMARS vehicle has a length of 23 feet/ 7 meter with a width of 7 feet 10 inches (2.4 meter) and it has a height of 10 feet 6 inches. The Finnish Army has carried out test firing of the multiple launch rocket system ammunition to test its long-range fires readiness. It was conducted in the Rovajärvi Live Fire and training exercise range from 16 to 17 November. Last month, the Finnish Defence Forces announced that it will carry out the Army Combined Joint Fires Exercise from 16 to 27 November. The test firing was conducted to check the precision and effectiveness of the multiple launch rocket system Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) Unitary rockets for point effects precision fire. It also involved the validation of the GMLRS Alternative Warhead (AW) rockets for area effects. The GLMRS Unitary rocket has a range of around 80km and explodes on target. However, the GMLRS AW are developed to service area targets and explode above the target without the unexploded ordinance effects. Artillery Inspector colonel Pertti Holma said, We have now validated the multiple launch rocket system capability by GMLRS rockets. We are capable of engaging area and point targets at increasingly long distances. We can be proud of our artillery system’s capability.
