Rescue missions continued in northern India after at least 22 people died in floods triggered by heavy rain in the state of Uttarakhand, officials said. The Indian Meteorological Department predicted that heavy rain would continue to fall in the state for the next two days. Jyoti Negi, who heads the state's Disaster Management Cell, said 18 deaths were reported in the Himalayan resort town of Nainital, two in Almorah and one each in of the Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts. At least eight people were missing and several others were trapped under debris, officials said. The army deployed helicopters to help with rescue efforts. Several days of heavy rain have flooded roads and destroyed bridges in the state. Nainital remained cut off from the rest of the state as roads leading to it were either blocked by landslides or washed away. Flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains have already killed at least 28 people in the southern state of Kerala. Landslides and floods are common in India's Himalayan north. Scientists say they are becoming more frequent as global warming contributes to the melting of glaciers there. At least 50 people were killed over the past three days, according to Indian officials, after intense monsoon rains poured over parts of eastern and northern India. Floods and landslides were triggered by the rains, overwhelming hundreds of villages, sweeping away houses and leaving residents stranded as rescue crews worked to evacuate survivors. The rains also caused a bridge to collapse in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh, killing two people as a result. A very severe cyclonic storm with winds gusting up to 185 km per hour began making landfall on the Gujarat coast Monday night, after dumping heavy rains on Mumbai, forcing the evacuation of over 1.5 lakh people in Gujarat and leaving two barges with 410 people on board adrift in the Arabian Sea. Tropical storm ‘Tauktae’ (pronounced as Tau’Te) which had intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm, lies close to the Gujarat coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. “The landfall process has started and will continue during next two hours,” the IMD said. Six persons were killed in Maharashtra’s Konkan region in separate incidents related to the severe cyclonic storm and three sailors remained missing after two boats sank in the sea, officials said. Three persons died in Raigad district, a sailor in Sindhudurg district and two persons were killed in Navi Mumbai and Ulhasnagar in Thane district after trees fell on them. Two boats with seven sailors on board, anchored in the Anandwadi harbour in Sindhudurg district capsized, an official statement said. As the cyclone moved past the Maharashtra coast in the morning, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport initially announced the suspension of operations from 11 am to 2 pm and later decided to keep all operations shut till 8 pm. #Shorts #CycloneTauktae #Maharashtra

Had the irrigation and PWD departments been more sensitive, this incident would not have taken place. We display this video in an effort to create awareness about the dangers of monsoon flash floods across India, and to pay homage and obeisance to the people involved in the incident. If we can create some awareness out of this video, some very modest amount of good can come out of the terrible tragedy that befell this family. We bow our heads to the loss of life and convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family concerned. Fortunately, there were also survivors in the group, despite the fall from a great height, with the flow of the waterfall. This tragic accident happened at the Patalpani waterfall in Indore, when a father and his 4 kids celebrated the MBA graduation of the oldest daughter and got surprised by the freak flood. A tragedy for these 3 family members resulted - the father and 2 girls died while the 2 boys are alive. This is the original video of the Indore Patalpani accident that was caused by a flash flood. Annual monsoon rain has caused flooding along the River Ganges in India and exposed hundreds of graves of coronavirus victims. Most of the bodies are thought to be of people who died during a big rise in cases earlier this year. The discovery has fueled allegations that the Modi government has concealed the true number of COVID-19 fatalities. India's most sacred river has turned into a graveyard. During a surge in cases, crematoriums could not keep up with demand. Cremations that families could not afford are now being carried out on the river banks. More than 1000 corpses have washed up since May. Health professionals have accused the Indian government of fudging its coronavirus figures to hide the true death toll. The official number stands at nearly 400,000. The hundreds of corpses emerging from the Ganges suggest that number may be far higher. India to Help Pakistan as Flood Kills More Than 1100 People | ISH News

Global Warming has caused severe and deadly climate change around the world, incidents of which are being reported from different parts. However, now the affected part is none other than our neighbouring country Pakistan, which is currently affected by massive floods. Tens of millions of people across Pakistan are battling the worst monsoon floods in the last 10 years. Countless homes have been washed away, farmland and crops are destroyed and the country's main river “Indus” is threatening to burst its banks. Pakistan’s Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said around one third (⅓) of the country was under water, creating a "crisis of unimaginable proportions". Officials say 1,136 people have died since June, when the seasonal rains began, but the final toll could be higher as hundreds of villages in the mountainous parts have been completely cut off after flood affected rivers washed away roads and bridges. The annual monsoon is essential for irrigating crops and refilling water bodies like lakes and dams across the Indian subcontinent, but it can also bring destruction. The National Disaster Management Authority in Pakistan said, “This year's flooding has affected more than 33 million people. Pakistan witnessed severe floods like this earlier in 2010, when approximately 2000 people lost their lives. Much of Sindh area of Pakistan is now an endless landscape of water, leading a massive military-led relief operation. One senior officer has said, "There are no landing strips or roads available; the pilots find it difficult to land," Prices of basic goods - particularly onions, tomatoes and chickpeas are rapidly increasing as vendors are facing a lack of supplies from the flooded regions of Sindh and Punjab areas of Pakistan . Padidan, a small town in Sindh, was drenched by more than 47 inches of rain since June, making it the wettest place in Pakistan. With this massive natural disaster, when countries around the world, including the US, the UK, Qatar, Canada etc are coming forward to help Pakistan, India is also all set to provide humanitarian support and aid to its neighbours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29th of August said he was “saddened” to see the devastation and “hoped for an early restoration of normalcy” in Pakistan. Moreover, according to sources, discussions are going on by top officials on the possibility of extending humanitarian assistance and options to help Pakistan. However, no decision has been taken yet. Responding to questions at a press conference in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said the government could “consider importing vegetables and other edible items from India to facilitate people after the massive floods destroyed crops across the country. A person rescues a mule from the river Mandakini during the Kedarnath flood of 2013. He saw the mule stuck in the middle of the river during the flood and with the help of a few friends, he tries to rescue the mule and ends up saving its life, at grave risk to his own. This incident took place en route Kedarnath. A mule stuck in a heavy flood river, struggling to cross the running flood river, a man walks towards the mule with ropes hanging to a fallen tree which seems to be the problem and solution at the same time, and after a long time spent and a lot of effort, they decide to put a rope toward mule's neck and pull back, then at last they succeed to rescue the mule with no harm.
