Although a lot of people think that the humps in camels and dromedaries are used to store water, this… is not true! The humps are indeed tanks, but not water tanks, but fat! When they have to spend a long time without eating or drinking, they use the fat in their humps as a source of energy to survive. Thanks to their humps, camels and dromedaries can stand up to two weeks without eating. And do you know how long they can last without drinking? They can be up to various weeks without drinking, but what is true is that when they find water, they’re able to drink up to 135 liters in one go, in only 13 minutes! It’s incredible! How can they drink that fast! An important thing you need to know is that wild camels are in danger of extinction. Contemporarily, there are only 950 camels in the wild. So, as we always say, we need to take care and respect nature, only this way we will be able to protect animals, plants, and ourselves! Goodbye friends! See you in the next Happy Learning Video!

What's Inside A Camel Hump?

A camel's hump doesn't contain water or bone… it’s fat. And each hump can store up to 36 kilograms of it that can sustain the camel for weeks or even months without food. The fat is incredibly nutritious and people are even starting to use it in cooking for its health benefits. But the camel didn't actually get its hump in the desert. In fact, Camels originated in the Canadian Arctic millions of years ago. And they used their fatty humps to survive long winters. ►Alan's Theory Merch: 🤍 Camels 🐪are one of the most amazing animals😍, they live in the desert and they, apparently have evolved specifically for that. At least that’s what it seems like. But recent discoveries show that camels actually originated in North America 44 million years ago, then migrated to Asia, Africa where they continued the breeds we know today of Dromedary (the one with one hump 🐪) and Bactrian (the one with two humps 🐫), and South America where they evolved into Llamas, Guanacos, Alpacas and Vicuñas. These new studies show that all the characteristics that we used to attribute to “protection for the sand” evolved originally as protection for the snow! 😳🤯, their big feet, the fur, the triple eyelid, the closing nostrils, etc… how unexpected is that. Anyhow, if you watch the video you are probably still wondering why we should not touch the red thing on their mouth (the Dulla) and the reason is this: Male camels inflate their Dulla like that only in December, because December is mating season, so when they show their Dulla is usually the time when the camel is extra aggressive and sensitive, and if you touch it, he might bite you. I hope you learned a bit from this video, I sure learned a lot! 🤟 #Camels #DesertLife #AnimalFacts #Nature #Educational #Evolution #MatingSeason #Learning #Wildlife #InterestingFacts #DesertAnimals #Curiosity #AnimalLovers #beautifull #loveanimals #uae #saudi #travel #loveanimals #facts #crazyfacts #discovery #discoverychannel #natgeo #nationalgeographic #shopwithyoutube ►Pimsleur Language Course 7 day FREE trial: 🤍 ►SUPPORT Alan's Theory at 🤍 ►SUBSCRIBE: 🤍 Remember to use this link for a FREE trial of the Pimsleur course on any language you choose, with this you are also supporting this channel: 🤍 _ LINKS ►Patreon: 🤍 ►Subscribe: 🤍 ►Facebook: 🤍 ►Instagram: 🤍 ►Twitter: 🤍 ►TikTok: Alanstheory - MY GEAR: This is the gear I use for producing these videos:: - Camera Sony A7S2: 🤍 - Lens Sony vario-tessar 16-70mm f4 🤍 - GoPro HERO 7 Black 🤍 - Backpack AmazonBasics DSLR Camera and Laptop Backpack 🤍 - Tripod Joby Gorillapod 5k 🤍 - Memory Card SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-I SDXC 🤍 - Editing Software Premiere Pro 🤍 - Computer Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch, 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage) 🤍 - Usb-c to sd card reader 🤍

The dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) is a large even-toed ungulate, of the genus Camelus, with one hump on its back.It is the tallest of the three species of camel; adult males stand 1.8–2 m at the shoulder, while females are 1.7–1.9 m tall. Males typically weigh between 400 and 600 kg (880 and 1,320 lb), and females weigh between 300 and 540 kg (660 and 1,190 lb).The species' distinctive features include its long, curved neck, narrow chest, a single hump (compared with two on the Bactrian camel and wild Bactrian camel), and long hairs on the throat, shoulders and hump. The coat is generally a shade of brown. The hump, 20 cm (7.9 in) tall or more, is made of fat bound together by fibrous tissue.Dromedaries are mainly active during daylight hours. They form herds of about 20 individuals, which are led by a dominant male. They feed on foliage and desert vegetation; several adaptations, such as the ability to tolerate losing more than 30% of its total water content, allow it to thrive in its desert habitat. Mating occurs annually and peaks in the rainy season; females bear a single calf after a gestation of 15 months. The dromedary has not occurred naturally in the wild for nearly 2,000 years. It was probably first domesticated in the Arabian Peninsula about 4,000 years ago, or in Somalia where there are paintings in Laas Geel that figure it from more than 5,000 to 9,000 years ago. In the wild, the dromedary inhabited arid regions, including the Sahara Desert. The domesticated dromedary is generally found in the semi-arid to arid regions of the Old World, mainly in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, and a significant feral population occurs in Australia. Products of the dromedary, including its meat and milk, support several north Arabian tribes; it is also commonly used for riding and as a beast of burden. = 00:00 Dromedary 01:58 Characteristics 03:57 Ecology = Follow me on Instagram: 🤍 Subscribe on: 🤍 = This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License. This pair of dromedary camels, Baby and Nessie, clearly don’t mind the spines. It hurts, but they can handle it. Camels have adapted to harsh desert conditions that require them to eat thorny plants. Inside a camel’s mouth, small cone-shaped protrusions called papillae guide the animal’s chew. The key is to avoiding being poked by the spines. Camels pivot their chew and slide the needles vertically down their throats. Regardless of their discomfort, the ruminators keep ruminating. Camels’ humps are not used to store water. Even though they come from hot climates, their humps store fat and also help the rest of their bodies to stay cooler. When needed, the fat will be converted to food or water. The word ‘camel’ comes from an Arabic word when it’s literally translated, it means beauty. Don’t ever try and say that camels are ugly! They need to stay hydrated in the desert, so it’s no surprise that camels can drink as much as 40 gallons of water at once. Considering it’s not being stored in their humps, that’s pretty amazing. - Get Paid To Use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube: bit.ly/facebook-social-media-work - This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License. There are three living camel species and only one is actually wild; most of the millions of camels around the world are domestic animals. There are feral populations, like the feral population in Australia, but these are technically still domestic animals - like feral dogs and cats that roam neighborhoods. Camels have amazing tolerance to heat. They have humps which store fat - not water - that can help sustain the animals in times of little to no food or water. Camels can go days without water in extreme heat and if they have constant assess to moist food they may survive ten months without drinking. These amazing mammals have plenty of adaptions for living in the extreme environments of deserts such as long eyelashes, a third eyelid, and the ability to drink gallons of water in just a few minutes, but they can also tolerate cold conditions! Scientific Name: Genus - Camelus Range: wild populations limited to China and Mongolia Size: 6 to 6.5 feet (1.8-2m) high at the shoulder; 900 to over 2,000 pounds (400-900kg) in weight; females are slightly smaller than males Diet: vegetation including thorned bushes and dry leaves - will also eat fish and animal products if the need arises Lifespan: 17-40+ years ✨ Animal Fact Files Patreon Supporters get early access to videos, get their video requests moved to the top of our request list, and more! ✨ 👉 🤍 You can learn more on: Twitter - 🤍 Facebook - 🤍 - Ian McKellar - 🤍 YoTuT - 🤍 Spasimir - 🤍 Pristurus - 🤍 Frank Vincentz - 🤍 Oona Räisänen & IUCN - 🤍 Paul Vlad - 🤍 adeel shahzad - 🤍 Christian Gerber - 🤍 Research Credits: 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍

Bactrian Vs Dromedary Camel Behaviours

One of the most common questions we get asked is "what's the difference between dromedary and bactrian camel behaviours?" Which is like asking a parent "who is your favourite child?" Beside the obvious - that dromedary camels have one hump and bactrian camels have 2 humps, the answer to this question is complex and diverse just as any camel's personality.  Being from Australia, we've had limited experience with bactrian camels compared to dromedary camels (as there are no bactrian camels in Australia), although we've had the pleasure of working with bactrian camels in Mongolia and the USA. When we we're first invited to help train bactrian camels in Mongolia (our first contact with them ever), naturally we doubted ourselves first (yes, we're just as human as the next person). We took time to decide. We thought on the idea of using our Camel Connection Trust Based Camel Training® on bactrian camels, after all we'd only ever used our method on dromedary camels. With some Google searching on bactrian camels and getting lost in a sea of information we decided to close the lids on the laptops and let our intuition guide us.  In reply to those that we're asking us to help them train their camels in Mongolia we replied "We will help! Our Camel Connection Trust Based Camel Training® will work on ANY camel...." And we were right! From then on we became addicted to work more with the bactrian camels and, of course, we have ample opportunities here in Australia to work with the dromedary camels.  Tune in now to hear the behavioural differences that we've encountered of the bactrian and dromedary camels. The Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus), also known as the Mongolian camel or domestic Bactrian camel, is a large even-toed ungulate native to the steppes of Central Asia. It has two humps on its back, in contrast to the single-humped dromedary.[a] Its population of 2 million exists mainly in the domesticated form. Their name comes from the ancient historical region of Bactria. Domesticated Bactrian camels have served as pack animals in inner Asia since ancient times. With its tolerance for cold, drought, and high altitudes, it enabled the travel of caravans on the Silk Road. Bactrian camels, whether domesticated or feral, are a separate species from the wild Bactrian camel, which is the only truly wild (as opposed to feral) species of camelid in the Old World. #shorts #animals #trending
