🤍 - Learn how to set up a green screen in your garage or at home and get professional results on a small budget and household tools. A good green key studio is the foundation of a successful Chroma key. The footage you make in a good studio will be easier to key in post production and will save you time while editing your project. So it's better to take your time with the setup and lighting than to try and fix it in post. There are different ways to set up a professional green key studio, if you have the means you can go for professional gear. But in this tutorial we are showing you the DIY low budget way to achieve the wanted setup. If you are creative and a little handy, creating things yourself has of course the financial advantage. An example for a famous DIY project is the camera slider made by Film Riot. In our DIY project, we used household tools we found in the garage. For lighting we also used the cheapest option to stay within the low budget theme. But again, use whatever you can find not every household has the same tools. Green is the most used color for Chroma key, but what if your talent is wearing green? To avoid that you key out parts of your talent, you can choose the other color used for chroma key, blue. These two colors are used because they differ most from the human skin tone colors. But green is favored and more used, because digital cameras are more sensitive to green light and will give a better result. In this tutorial we create a more mobile setup that you can easily move or dismantle if needed. But if you have the room and the means, you can always opt to create a permanent green screen studio like we build at our work space. If you are going for a permanent studio, there is also the option to use Chroma color paint which is the alternative for a fabric and commonly used by larger production houses. What color and kind of green do you actually need? I've done some experimenting and you basically need any kind of green, dark green, lime green, neon green and it can be card board, paper, fabric even green bed sheets. Just make sure it is smooth enough (not graded like the cardboard I had) to take light evenly without casting any shadows. You can of course use a blue screen or any other color as long as the subject is not wearing the same color. In this video I show you how to make a $6 green screen (6 sheets at 99 cents each and they are 22in x 28in each). I got it at Michael's arts and crafts store but you can get these anywhere like Target (69 cents ea), Walmart, Dollar Store, etc. Florescent Green poster board: 🤍 Wondershare Filmora video editor download: 🤍 It works just as good or better than the actual Muslin - Green Chromakey 6 x 10 feet Backdrop i had in this video: 🤍 If you are looking to use the green screen against one wall just get the poster boards. I actually purchased like 3 muslin green screens all different sizes and slightly different colors just to experiment. Now looking back i would have rather just used green poster boards and taped it in my entire room then get the muslin fabric. Because i want the green flush against my wall the fabric is a pain to tack in and try to get it smooth as possible. The poster boards are already super smooth just need to tape it up against the wall and your ready to go. Also I like the florescent neon green poster board cause it just brightens up my room too. You can buy green poster boards and tape it to your wall, you can paint your wall green, you can buy green fabric and tack, nail or tape it against you wall. Of course you can buy a support stand but you can also use like a cloths rack, shoe rack, white board with wheels, or actual curtain rods to hang the fabric. FYI.. First I drilled 1" holes into the 2x4 to act as footings for the 3/4" PVC pipe. I then inserted the 6 foot PVC pipe into the 2x4s and used elbow joints to tie them together with a 4 foot PVC pipe across the top. I screwed another 4 foot PVC pipe across the footings to keep a consistent width and prevent the pipe kicking out. I then draped 2 layers of 54x108" party tablecloth over the top bar, creating 4 layers total. This provided enough layers to reduce transparency and produce a solid green. A few pieces of tape later and the job is complete. =

We look at electronic ballasts and daylight balanced tubes so that it matches the rest of your studio setup. DISCLAIMER and FAQ: This video is quite a bit old, and since the time I first posted it, I've gotten a lot of comments and questions. 1 ) YES! This video has bad Green Screen Keying - But it's not because of the green screen. This is due to the editing software I was using at the time (back in 2010.) These days, newer and updated editing software is available that has improved the keying effect tremendously! Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro, Sony Vegas and Adobe After Effects are just a few out there that work great with green screen keying. 2) Green screens are now much cheaper - Because video editing software has improved over the years and green screen keying has become increasingly popular and much more affordable. At the time this video was made, the cheapest green screen kit available was over $200. Now, you can find green screen cloth and stands sometimes as cheap as 20 bucks. 3 ) Lighting is everything - If you're setting up a green screen shot for your videos, how you light the scene is most important. Make sure that your light source is soft, and doesn't cast harsh shadows on your green screen. The more even your lighting, the easier keying out the green will be. 4 ) It doesn't have to be Green - In the 90's and before, Green screen was typically BLUE. The chroma keying effect will work with any solid color background as long as your subject does not wear the same color, or their clothing will be keyed out with it. If you have a vivid, bright blue screen, the effect will work just as well.
