With #Ukraine having defeated Russia's demoralised forces on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, this video shows Ukrainian forces liberating the small Black Sea island. Also shows them rescuing the last remaining diehard Ukrainian defender, in the form of a little black cat 😊. The now content cat was duly named Snake, and brought back to the mainland. Videos reveals the massive destruction of Russian defensive positions and their multitude of damaged and abandoned hardware - all repeatedly pummeled into oblivion by Ukrainian combat UAV and artillery. The loss of the island is another humiliating military defeat for Russia and a significant victory for Ukraine. All the more so, because way back in Feb, Russia foolishly thought it could easily capture all Ukraine's southern coastline and cut it off from the sea. Snake Island, or Zmiinyi Island, also known as Serpent Island is an island belonging to Ukraine and is located in the Black Sea, near the Danube Delta. It plays an important role in delimiting the territorial waters of Ukraine. On the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine’s first day, two Russian naval warships, Moskva and Vasily Bykov attacked this Island. On the same day, a second attack followed and the Russian force’s invaded and captured the island. Drone pilots put on a deadly fireworks show when they took out a Russian ammunition depot on the Black Sea's Snake Island. Footage of the attack shows the Ukrainian marksmen laughing as the tactical drone wipes out not only the ammo but a command post too. Newsflash obtained the video from the Operational Command South (OC South) - a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces - yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd May). The footage shows the Russian ammo depot and command post on Snake Island, also known as Zmiinyi Island, between the crosshairs. An explosion is seen hitting the facility before a piece of equipment is also targeted. The drone pilots can be heard laughing as missiles and shells explode one by one in a lethal fireworks display. The OC South, which carried out the strikes using a Bayraktar drone, said: "Another 'visit' to enemy positions on Zmiinyi." Bayraktar TB2 drones - manufactured by Baykar from Istanbul, Turkey - are being used extensively by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during the war. Used for both surveillance and attacks, they are believed to be wreaking havoc on the invading Russians. The drone is believed to have been involved in the destruction of the Russian Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the Moskva, last month. The AFU said they launched anti-ship missiles at the cruiser after it was "distracted" by a TB2. And the drone was also apparently used in an attack on two oil depots in Bryansk, Russia, last week. The TB2 is reportedly so popular in Ukraine that a folk song about it has even been produced. Snake Island - located in the Black Sea, near the Danube Delta - was famously attacked and captured by two warships of the Russian Navy on 24th February - the first day of the invasion. But the Ukrainians have struck back at the tiny island's Russian occupiers. On Monday, 2nd May, the Ukrainians destroyed two Russian boats near the island. And on 30th April, Ukrainian forces attacked Russian targets on the island, destroying three anti-aircraft guns, a Strela-10 surface-to-air missile system and a communications vehicle. UPDATE!!! Ukraine war: Snake Island border guards are alive and well, says Ukrainian navy. Ukraine's Navy has said that 13 border guards defending Snake Island are alive and have been captured by Russia. The men had initially been reported dead last week, but Ukrainian authorities now say they were "captured by the Russian occupiers". "We are very happy to learn that our brothers are alive and well," the Ukrainian Navy said on its official Facebook page. "The Marines and frontier guards [were] captured by the Russian occupiers on Snake Island." Chaotic information surrounding the Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to confusing and contradictory accounts. On Friday, Ukrainian officials reported that all troops stationed on the strategic Snake Island (also known as Zmiinyi Island) in the Black Sea had been killed. The men could be heard defiantly refusing Russian demands to surrender, prompting international attention. Viral audio clips showed the border guards were told by Moscow forces to "lay down their weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties" or "be bombed". The Ukrainian soldiers could then be heard speaking amongst themselves, before swearing at their opponents and telling the Russian warship to "go fuck yourself". After reports of their deaths, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded each of the guards the posthumous title of "Hero of Ukraine". “All border guards died heroically but did not give up,” he said. Russia had denied allegations that the 13 Ukrainian soldiers were killed by air and sea strikes. Russian state TV later showed what it claimed was footage of the soldiers alive in custody, but the footage could not be independently verified. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU) had also u-turned and suggested that the 13 border guards may still be alive. Kyiv said that the island's communications and infrastructure had been "completely destroyed" by Russian "occupiers," making it harder to find out what had happened to the soldiers. Ukraine's Navy says that a humanitarian mission that had been sent to Snake Island after the soldiers reported deaths has also been captured. "The illegal seizure of a non-combatant civilian ship that did not carry out any military tasks is a violation of the rules and customs of war and international humanitarian law," the Navy said.
