What Are the Wiccan Traditions? | Wicca

Full Playlist: 🤍 - - Watch more How to Understand Wicca videos: 🤍 Hi, my name is Phyllis Curott and I'm a Wiccan priestess. I am a Wiccan priestess in the ara tradition. That's A-R-A. There are quite a number of Wiccan traditions now. They've developed over the course of the last 50 years. Most of them in the last 30 years. Personally I think you have to have been practicing for at least 20 years before you can call it a tradition. Although lots of people will read a book and practice for a couple of years and are very sincere when they call what they do a tradition. The Wiccan traditions that are have been practiced for a long time and that are fairly well known in addition to the gardenarian tradition which is the British tradition, and the Alexandrian, there's fairy Wicca which comes mostly from Victor Anderson on the west coast. The reclaiming tradition which is Star Hawk, who studied with Victor Anderson, which is a kind of Wiccan tradition. There's Celtic Wicca. There's the tradition of Ara, which I practice. Which is a Shamanic Wiccan tradition. It integrates core Shamanic practices. There are, I hesitate to start naming names because I'm going to give people out. Silver Ravenwolf has a Wiccan tradition. The Black Forest tradition. There are a lots of them now. And when you go looking for a teacher, what you want to do is find out how long they've been practicing. Who they learned from. The experience of people who are studying with them. And it's okay to sample. It didn't used to be. You were supposed to make a commitment and work with a group for a year and a day. I think these days nobody wants people to be sort of super market shopping, but you need to know what's out there because different paths talk to different people. Some are more formal. Some are more Native American. They have more of a Native American influence. Other's are more Shamanic. Core Shamanic which is universal Shamanic techniques. So you want to find the path that works for you. Someone more political reclaiming is very feminist. Although I'm also feminist, but reclaiming is very feminist and very political. So it's like shopping for a home. It's an extension of who you are. It's your path to really discovering the best parts of yourself. So it has to fit. It has to feel comfortable. It has to feel right. It's not like the patriarchal religions that proceeded it. That say that they have the one true path, the only path. We understand that there are as many paths as there are expressions of the sacred in the world. A forest is made up of, to be healthy, a forest is made up of many kinds of trees. So you have to find the one that's right for you. The one that gives you joy. Insight that challenges you. And that draws together a community of people with whom you have a feeling of kinship where you walk into a room and you feel like you know that feeling like you've met them before. It's a basis for trust. You need to trust the people that you're working with. So you want to know that they're experienced. You want to know that they've practiced for a long time. Humor, humility, tolerance, openness, generosity, compassion, and a sense of wonder. Those are the most important things. Those are the most important things. You find that and you find the folks that you're meant to work with. And it's perfectly fine to work alone. These days obviously, you know. The internet. It's all over. It's everywhere. You look until you find the thing that fits you.

DAYTON When our kids dress up as witches for Halloween they probably won't look anything like the the real-life witches who live here in the Miami Valley. Susan Bergeron and Tina Porter are housewives and modern day witches, or Wicca. "I'm a witch," Dayton's Bergeron explains. "For me, I practice magic." Wicca, a subset of paganism, is a religion that pays respect to the elements and various gods. "Basically, living my life, keeping in tune with the earth and everything," Porter said Wednesday. Susan says she's had gifts from an early age. "I do active magic works, which lately had been focused on healing," Bergeron explained. "Ive always been able to see some of the stuff that other people who don't. You know, the 5 and 6 year olds who see fairies? Right here." These Wicca take popular images lightly, even appreciating some. "They're historical. Some of these images just got brought through with time," Porter added. Like cauldrons, which are an active part of practicing magic and casting spells the good kind of spells. "I did a spell for money for college. I landed a scholarship!" Porter said with a smile. Wicca opposes the use of negative, harmful magic and discourages people from hurting others. "It's bit me a couple times while learning and I'm very careful since then. Whatever you send out comes back three times," Bergeron added. These Wicca say they always ask permission to cast a spell if it involves someone else. And rhyming really is a thing! While it's not necessary, it is believed to intensify a spell.

How to Cast a Spell | Wicca

527140
10463
5900
00:03:26
04.11.2013

Full Playlist: 🤍 - - Watch more How to Understand Wicca videos: 🤍 Wiccans cast spells very carefully if they're know what they're doing. They use the power of the divine. They work guided by it. I always suggest that people do a little divination before they undertake spellcasting, that they ask if it's appropriate to cast the spell, and that they ask for guidance in casting the spell so that they get information. The symbols that come up will help you to determine which element you want to work with, whether you want to work with air or fire or water or earth or a combination of them. And if you're given advice not to do it, take the advice. If you're going to go ahead, my recommendation in casting any kind of a spell is while you want to have a specific purpose a goal in mind, and intent, the risk with all spells is that we tap into our unconscious and we do it unconsciously. And there are all kinds of complications dwelling down there. Nothing evil, nothing dire, but complications, the things that we have yet to learn about ourselves. And that is in fact one of the points of a spell not working out or not working out as you intended. It's an opportunity to learn something you needed to learn about yourself. So the safeguard in dealing with these unknown unconscious forces that can influence the outcome of a spell is by using the sacred as your partner. One way is by asking advice, by using divination, by engaging in dialogue with the divine. The other way is an almost foolproof method that I really love, which is to leave a certain space. I always do this when I do any kind of ritual. I never over-script. And when you do a spell, you never over-script. You always leave a space for the divine to express itself in the outcome of the event. So if you need transportation to get to work. I think we were talking about that before. If you need transportation to get to work, you don't ask for a Ferrari. You ask for transportation. If you need a new apartment, you don't ask for the penthouse on Park Avenue. You ask for a new home. You trust the universe to help you in finding the thing that's right for you at the time that you cast the spell. And the spell is not a pleading with a divinity that is greater than you and looking down on you because you're weak and helpless. In fact, it's a partnership. So you must go to the indwelling divinity, the well of your own gifts. And bring that out creatively. That's what a spell is. It is this work of art. You can go to a book and copy a spell and follow it precisely, but we're not dealing with a mechanical universe. You're living within a living, conscious, sacred universe. And so you need to approach it as such. And that's the essence of casting a successful spell, that you respect the sacred universe. You invoke it as your partner. You ask for its guidance. You work with its energy, and you trust it to provide the outcome that's best for you. And that's what you ask for in a spell. Whatever the topic of the spell is, you ask for the best outcome. And that's a great way to cast a great spell.

How to Cast a Banishing Spell | Wicca

00:03:57
09.11.2013

Full Playlist: 🤍 - - Watch more How to Understand Wicca videos: 🤍 Banishing is an old kind of term of art and the idea was to send it away or send someone away. Judicious. You have to be careful with this because frequently this is in the midst of conflict. When there's conflict there's hurt feelings, there's woundedness, there's anger which is protecting you from the hurt feelings and a lot of it can be buried. You think you're coping but you're not. When you start to do banishing I was a witchlet. I was a very young witch and I put a banishing pentagram I talked about it in The Book of Shadows. I kept putting a banishing pentagram on the office door of my then boss who was very difficult to deal with to say the least. He exploded out of his office after three weeks and fired me. I was ready to quit anyway so it was fine, but I learned. I thought I was very calm when I was doing it and in fact I was calm while I was doing it. But, I was also very hurt and tired and exhausted and frustrated and a lot of that emotion had to have been fueling the banishing pentagram be cause he reacted in kind. He responded with a lot of anger himself. So, you want to be careful when you start to move into banishing. It is appropriate, however, in situations of tremendous injustice, cruelty. When you are dealing with a situation of another person who has engaged in harm and delivered harm and they need to be dealt with. And so, banishing or binding, this is the other way of doing it, are two of the common ways in which no harm is inflicted on the other person. You are simply putting up You're digging the moat, putting up the wall and making it impossible for them to reach you. You are sending energy and sending the person away. Bad boyfriends. Bad girlfriends. Show them the door. Change the lock. Don't answer the emails. You have to act in accord. This is the key with all spells, is to act in accord. Your behavior has to be consistent with the desired goal. You don't always need to use spells. Sometimes you can do this in very practical real world simple ways. Say goodbye. Be consistent. Change the lock. But, if you want to do a banishing or you want to do a binding when you're dealing with something more serious, a very simple banishing; you take a little bit of the cayenne pepper, which has this very hot energy so you don't want it to be your energy and we temper it with a little bit of sage which is a purifying herb. You can grow it in your garden or you can get it out of your kitchen cabinet. In this case, I'm just going to grind it right in the palm of my hand, just a little bit. Normally, I'd use a lot more but that's enough. You don't need a lot. I would mix it together. This way I'm going counter-clockwise which is the direction of banishing. It's called [xx]. Wonderful old word. Counter- clockwise. The opposite direction. The direction of [xx]right. I would go outside and I would blow it. Hard. Be gone. One, two, three, done. And then I wash my hands. Then I get on with my life. I don't linger. I don't devote any energy. If you want to banish it, if you want it gone, don't devote any energy to it. Move on to the next thing.
