The Streamlight TLR VIR 2 is the cheapest infrared laser/illuminator combination unit on the market. Though it's primarily intended for use on pistols, it can be pressganged into service on a long gun rail as well. The activation method and effectiveness of the illuminator leave something to be desired, however. If you're truly desperate for an IR LAM, but you only have $300, you may not have any other choice. Here is a practical application of the Villain Weapon Systems focus lens for the Streetlight TLR-VIR II. It allows you to throw the light through a 3 dimensional barricade, like a vehicle without lighting up the entire cabin causing your night vision to adjust brightness. Making it harder to see past the vehicle. Also shows how the white light beam pattern is affected with the focus lens installed.

The stream light TLR VIR ii is our favorite budget IR laser and illuminator. Does that mean that it is the best? Absolutely not. This is a quick review and note on adapting a streamlight tail switch to work on the VIR II. Link to make the modification- 🤍 The VIR II illuminator is fantastic at 75y and in. Amazing flood, good visibility and leaps and bounds better than what others have stated is as good as an onboard illuminator (hint, it isn't at all so watch the video). I also had a side by side comparison of the x300 vs. the VIR II and a quick comparison with a somogear peq-15 full power. Next series will have a better line up and a clear understanding under nods of how effective it is. Line up will include full power peq-15, somogear peq-15, phantom hill ctf-1 and a few others. Great budget option

Quick video demonstrating the TLR VIR II from Streamlight w/the modified tape switch I made (🤍 I actually modified the design a bit to include a L-bracket thats stronger and more durable. The VIR II is fantastic for 75 yards and in if illumination is needed. Laser is visible out to 350y. I plan on doing some actual shooting later but the first 5 minutes are a good place to check it out and see how it performs. 5 and after are in woods and me just talking too much.

IR Pistol Light… does it fit TLR-1 holster?
In this video I demonstrate how to modify a STREAMLIGHT factory 69130 to work perfectly with the VIR II. I also want to point out that it is a fantastic unit and to not believe it’s “weak”. It’s not peq15 quality, but it’s a fantastic 150y and in ir laser and illuminator. The laser is easily visible at 350y but it’s a fantastic unit.
We will say it: We don't think full power IR lasers are worth it for most people. What we care about most is a high quality IR illuminator. If you have a full power unit, awesome! If you don't, don't sweat it. You can do work with whatever setup you have access to. Our favorite budget entry laser is the TLR VIR ii. Is it the best? Nope. This is a comparison at 25 and 50 yards of the aforementioned lights. Only the visible spectrum is compared. It is worth noting that the TLR VIR II's IR spectrum beam pattern is slightly more diffuse than it's viz spectrum pattern due to the LED die for the IR being embedded in the wall of the reflector instead of at the epicenter of the cone like its viz LED. The XVL2 IRC uses identical "Max vision" reflectors housing separate viz/IR LED dies. The scouts actually "rotate" the dies and TIR optic so as to provide centering of the selected die, corresponding with mode, and have identical beam patterns between VIZ/IR. Your specific device sensitivity, and the ambient light, will greatly influence the level of perceptive illumination that each provides. However, I will note that the XVL2 IRC "maxvision" is an absolute wall of IR, and even on a 3/4 moon night light tonight, it was very effective. I would say it has similar overall range to the TLR VIR II in IR mode, but with a true "light up the whole field" and VERY CLEAN/EVEN beam pattern vs. the tighter, with artifact present, VIR II. Its IR performance indeed mirrored its Viz performance, while the VIR II's is more cluttered and less throw-y in IR mode than Viz. The scouts were mirrors of each other, although their IR beams were a bit less "clean" than their viz.
