When you are sampling from vinyl, it can be difficult to match up multiple samples as you have match keys, tempos, etc. In this video I am going through my workflow layering multiple record samples, and making them blend together smoothly on the MPC One. But this strategy can be translated to any sampler. For this beat I used the MPC One as the standalone tool to flip/mix all of the vinyl samples, including drums, melodies, and bass. The samples used are by Blue Magic, a classic soulful group, and Eddie Harris, a legendary saxophone player and jazz musician. I hope you enjoy this workflow and the sample based beat, and I hope the video provides some inspiration for your own production. Quick process video showing how I use my ipad mini to layer synths into a boom-bap beats by sampling individual notes from MiniMoog IOS directly into the AKAI MPC 3000 and pitching them using 16 levels. Unfortunately, the mix is terrible, but this process always gives me new ideas for what types of samples to look for when filling out a minimal track.
