Norwegian Encore is home to several outdoor spaces. The main pool deck is deck 16, with two pools and a kid's Aqua Park. The exclusive Vibe Beach Club is a hidden gem; even in Alaska, you can watch the glaciers from the comfort of your hot tub. On this Norwegian Encore Ship Tour, other outdoor spaces you will want to visit are on the Waterfront. This deck 8 open promenade is home to several bars, restaurants, and shops. The outdoor decks are also home to several of Norwegian Encore's signature attractions. The most iconic is the Encore Speedway. This two-story race track has thrilling views, especially when you zoom along next to Alaskan fjords. There is also the intricate and well-themed laser tag course aft on Deck 18. Back indoors, the Galaxy Pavilion is home to several technologically enhanced attractions with hour, day, or week-long passes available for purchase. NORWEGIAN ENCORE ENTERTAINMET AND DINING Traditional cruisers will be happy to know that the cruise line hosts many game shows, trivia sessions, and other daily activities as well. At night, the highlight of the entertainment is the signature show, Choir of Man. Join the lads at The Jungle and listen to songs from various genres. There are also headliner acts, as well as two comedians that are featured in the Social Club on Deck 6. Not to mention, there is live music throughout the ship with at least 5 different performers. From an acoustic duo to pub-style entertainment, a rock band, a Latin duo, and more, the nightlife is diverse and high-energy. For those who like to party, don't forget to check out the silent disco and the popular GLOW party too. Regarding dining, we tested out as many restaurants as possible for this Norwegian Encore Ship Tour and Review. This meant breakfast at the buffet, several orders of chicken wings at the Local, and even a sit-down lunch in one of the main dining rooms. NCL is known for its Freestyle Approach, so there are no set dining times or table assignments. With a variety of specialty restaurants, cruisers can enjoy a diverse selection including barbecue at Q Texas Smokehouse, dinner and a show at Teppanyaki, French at Le Bistro, Italian at Onda by Scarpetta, seafood at Ocean Blue, Mexican at Los Lobos, and the American steakhouse Cagney's. One of our favorites is Food Republic, which is more of a tapas fusion restaurant that is great to be enjoyed with friends. Deck 8 is home to many of the bars on the ship. My personal favorite is the beer hall, the District Brewhouse, which is home to over 70 beers and lively music. Heidi's favorite is the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, mixing up flavorful cocktails like our go-to raspberry guava and jalapeno cucumber mojitos. There is also the Cellars Wine bar, Maltings Whiskey Bar, and the upscale A-List Bar for martinis and Collins drinks. We stayed in a balcony stateroom, cabin 12178, for this Norwegian Encore Tour. This room had adequate storage and a familiar layout. Plus, a balcony is a must in Alaska. It allowed us to capture some fantastic videos and photos of the scenery. Yes, this racetrack is still open, even in Alaska. The Encore Speedway covers over 1,100 feet with 10 turns and 4 points that extend up to 13 feet over the side of the ship, making it one of the most thrilling attractions on land or at sea. One of the largest and most intricate laser tag arenas at sea is not far from the racetrack. This lost city of Atlantis-themed game is fast-paced, so be prepared to use strategy if you want your team to emerge with some bragging rights. Norwegian Encore also features the Galaxy Pavilion. This family-friendly space features a variety of virtual reality experiences, including dark ride simulators, a driving simulator, a virtual reality escape room, and much more. Guests can purchase single rides, an hour of play, a day pass, or a cruise long pass. Norwegian Encore’s pools, hot tubs, and water slides are all open, even in Alaska! The Ocean Loops free fall slide will have you twisting and turning and extending over the side of the ship during your ride. there is also the multi-story Aqua Racer waterslide and the kids’ aqua park. Norwegian Encore is home to one of the best NCL signature productions, Choir of Man. Join the boys for a drink at The Jungle and prepare for high-energy dancing and singing. The Social is the place to be for comedy shows, various parties like the popular GLOW party or silent disco, and the late-night club. One of the reasons that we love Norwegian Encore is that there are so many different places to admire the views. The Observation Lounge, located all the way forward on Deck 15, features wall-to-wall glass windows overlooking the bow and several different seating options making it the perfect place to watch the ship sail into port, which is particularly appealing in Alaska. If you’d prefer to spend your time outdoors, Norwegian Encore is also home to the very popular Waterfront on Deck 8. This 1/3-of-a-mile-long promenade gets you closer to the ocean and is another perfect spot for glacier viewing or wildlife sighting. The Waterfront features several comfortable seating options (some of which even have overhead heaters), along with outdoor dining and bars if the weather allows. Speaking of drinks, Norwegian Encore is home to two of our favorite bars. One of Don’s favorite bars at sea is the District Brewhouse. This bar offers up to 50 different bottled and 22 draft beers. While the Brewhouse is his favorite bar, Heidi loves the Sugarcane Mojito Bar. This bar features many mojitos, including our go-to Raspberry Guava and Jalapeno Cucumber mojitos. Norwegian Encore features several specialty restaurants to suit all tastes. There’s the casual Q Texas Smokehouse with live music, Los Lobos with some table-made guacamole, and the entertaining dinner-and-a-show at Teppanyaki. Some of our favorites also include Onda featuring high-end Italian cuisine, and Food Republic offering a wide selection of tapas with a fusion of flavors. Of course, there are many complimentary dining options to enjoy on Norwegian Encore as well. The ship features three main dining rooms, a buffet, and the 24-hour pub, The Local. Let’s just say I had my fair share of chicken wings here! If you are looking to splurge a little on your vacation, The Vibe Beach Club is a 2-story private retreat for the 18+ crowd. This space was a great outdoor spot for glacier viewing away from the crowds. The hot tubs were pretty popular on our Alaska cruise as well. The Mandara Spa’s thermal suite is another great upgrade, showcasing hot tile loungers with 270’ views. Norwegian Cruise Line recently welcomed 🤍Eatsleepcruise1 aboard Norwegian Encore to share their journey in a 4-part video series. Check out part three of the series and join the conversation, below! - - - Find out if you should upgrade your accommodations on your next Alaska cruise with our Norwegian Encore Balcony Cabin Tour. We stayed in a BA category cabin, stateroom 12718, for this cabin tour. This forward-located stateroom was on deck 12, conveniently located equidistant from the Waterfront on deck 8 and the outdoor decks starting on deck 16. This standard balcony cabin was approximately 214 square feet with a 38 square foot balcony. The bathroom was to the right, with the closet tucked around the corner. When it comes to the bathroom, it is a bit roomier by cruise ship standards. It features a somewhat larger shower with a glass door and plenty of counter space and shelves for storage. While cabin configurations can vary, this cabin’s desk and sofa were located immediately beyond the bathroom and both were quite spacious. In fact, there is even a drawer under the sofa for some added storage space. The desk also houses the mini-fridge to keep drinks cool and small under-counter cabinets for other accessories. Continuing further into the room, there was the bed and the balcony. The king-sized bed was adjacent to the balcony facing forward. This bed provided plenty of comfort after our long days and nights exploring all that Alaska and Norwegian Encore offered. The cabin’s neutral color palette with pops of nautical blue makes it feel warm and welcoming. We also really like the modern conveniences. Three power outlets are near the desk, but a USB outlet can also be found on each side of the bed. Finally, there was a balcony with two chairs and a small table. From sailing through fjords and scouting for wildlife to scenic cruising in Glacier Bay National Park, the landscapes in Alaska are magnificent! With a balcony, you can enjoy all these views from the privacy of your cabin. So, for us, upgrading to a balcony on Norwegian Encore was undoubtedly worth it! It's a big ship and here are some of the things that we think would have helped us before we boarded: 1. Head towards the back of the Garden Buffet for more seating. 2. The Local is a good option if the buffet is busy - especially for breakfast. 3. Get reservations to the shows you want to see on embarkation day. The shows fill up fast! 4. Get to the observation lounge early! 5. Book your shore excursions online before you sail to save time at the Excursion Desk. 6. The main decks are 6, 7, and 8 - so you if you want to be close to dining, entertainment, and bars, book 9 or 10. 7. We don't recommend paying for the premium drink package. We got it for free, but never could have drank enough to make paying for it worth it. 8. The bar menu remain pretty similar at all the bars. Take a picture on Day 1 to save the hassle of dealing with the QR codes. 9. Even if you don't have a dining plan, try 1 or 2 of the specialty restaurants. 10. Review deck plans ahead of time and download the NCL app! My Family Trip to ALASKA | Cruising on The Norwegian Encore Part 4 *SKAGWAY* We went into the day without any plans but ended up having an INCREDIBLE experience with Sockeye Cycle. We booked the Klondike Summit bike tour, where we were shuttled up to the top of the summit via van, and biked back down at about 15-20mph! We rode along the white pass and saw the train in passing! It did rain about 98% of our trip, but we had a lovely time. HIGHLY recommend this tour! Alaska is open for 2021!! This is exciting as we were not sure if the Alaska season would be possible with Canada closing their borders and ports... but we are back and able to sail from Seattle. We are doing a test cruise for NCL. What is a test cruise you ask? It is a non-revenue sailing where the crew can test out all of the new protocols to make sure all runs smoothly next week when paying customers get onboard... so we don't mind being the guinea pigs! Our sailing is a 4-day to Ketchikan, Alaska and back. So what did we have to do to board? All passengers are 100% vaccinated, even kids. We had to show proof of vaccination AND take a rapid test upon arrival which was paid for by the cruise line. Once your test comes back negative, you are allowed to board. But the good thing about all this is once you are onboard, no masks are required anywhere onboard!! We had a GREAT sailaway party and caught a beautiful sunset over the Pacific.
