From the album "Anthology II: Movie Themes 1976-1988", out now on Sacred Bones Records. Listen / buy : lnk.to/JCAnthologyII Animator: lilfuchs By now everyone should know, John Carpenter is not only a celebrated filmmaker but also a musical maestro whose soundtracks have become synonymous with the genres of horror, suspense, and science fiction. Anthology II (Movie Themes 1976-1988) continues the celebration of his compositional genius via an excellently sequenced collection of some of his most iconic pieces of music from his extensive filmography, all newly recorded with his musical collaborators Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter. The compilation includes selections from Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, They Live, Assault on Precinct 13, Prince of Darkness, The Fog, Halloween (and its sequels), and beyond. Among its highlights are the three lost cues from The Thing, previously unreleased and now re-recorded. The Thing marks one of the rare occasions that John Carpenter stepped away from scoring duties and entrusted the task to another composer, the legendary Ennio Morricone. Upon receiving Morricone’s score Carpenter felt that the film would benefit from the inclusion of additional music and took the initiative to record and insert multiple synth driven cues. Anthology II (Movie Themes 1976-1988) represents just a fraction of John Carpenter's impressive musical repertoire. His ability to capture the essence of his films through evocative melodies, atmospheric soundscapes, and innovative use of synths has solidified his status as one of the most influential composers in the history of cinema. With each haunting note and pulsating beat, his soundtracks continue to resonate with audiences, forever etching his name in the annals of film music history. Follow John Carpenter: 🤍 🤍 🤍

From 'Spies' Bandcamp: 🤍 Apple Music: 🤍 Have you ever felt like you’re being watched? Have you felt unseen eyes staring at you, monitoring your every move? Composer and guitarist Daniel Davies reflects on this familiar paranoia on his new EP, Spies. Across its five stirringly atmospheric tracks, the frequent John Carpenter collaborator evokes the tingle you get on the back of your neck when you sense you’re under surveillance — a feeling some psychologists have dubbed the “psychic staring effect.” The songs for Spies were composed in the fall and winter of 2020, in the depths of pandemic lockdown. Working in isolation in his L.A. studio, Davies composed the five tracks entirely alone. With no collaborators, his gaze turned inward, and the songs feel intimate and intense. Yet at the same time, they would become the most sonically expansive material he’s ever put on a solo record. His guitar and synthesizer are bolstered by double bass, cello, viola, and violin, adding a new depth to the music. As he did for his 2020 full-length Signals, Davies teamed up with acclaimed visual artist Jesse Draxler for the artwork. The stark, black-and-white piece that Draxler contributed for the cover of Spies perfectly captures the mood of the record. Eyes are cut out, disassociated from faces, their gazes made inscrutable. Yet they seem to fix on the listener. Have you ever felt like you’re being watched? Maybe you are.

"Spies" from composer and guitarist Daniel Davies's new EP Spies via Sacred Bones Records. Purchase 'Spies' here: 🤍 Across its five stirringly atmospheric tracks, the frequent John Carpenter collaborator reflects on the familiar sensation of feeling as though one’s every action is being watched and scrutinized by unseen eyes, a prescient theme in the social media age. Davies composed the five tracks in his Los Angeles studio in the fall and winter of 2020, while in the depths of pandemic lockdown. Working in isolation his gaze turned inward, resulting in a batch of material that feels at once intense and intimate, while also his most sonically expansive solo material yet. His trademark guitar and synthesizer lines are bolstered by double bass, cello, viola, and violin, adding a new depth to the music. As he did for his 2020 full-length Signals, Davies teamed up with acclaimed visual artist Jesse Draxler (Daughters, Poppy) for the artwork. The stark, black-and-white piece that Draxler contributed for the cover of Spies perfectly captures the mood of the record. Eyes are cut out, disassociated from faces, their gazes made inscrutable. The artwork and music share a similar effect, akin to the tingle one gets on the back of their neck when they sense they’re under surveillance — a feeling some psychologists have dubbed the “psychic staring effect.” Spies arrives in the midst of a busy year for Davies, just months after the release of the highly acclaimed Lost Themes III album he made with his frequent creative foils John Carpenter and Cody Carpenter and ahead of that same trio’s forthcoming Halloween Kills OST, due later this year. 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍

From the "Halloween Kills OST", out now on Sacred Bones Records. Buy here: 🤍 It’s just five notes plucked out on a piano, so sparsely arranged that it feels like barely more than a sketch, so simple that an untrained player can easily pick it up, but it’s one of cinema’s greatest musical accomplishments. By now, John Carpenter’s hypnotic theme to his 1978 horror masterpiece Halloween has embodied slasher-stalker anxiety for generations of filmgoers, and woven itself so into pop culture that it’s become musical shorthand for the entire horror genre. And like the seemingly unkillable Michael Meyers, it’s back once again. In 2018, Carpenter returned to the franchise his iconic creation spawned for the first time since 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch, erasing the 40 years of sequels and reboots that happened under other filmmakers, and returning the story to his original vision. While directing duties for the new Halloween and its sequels have been turned over to David Gordon Green, Carpenter has stayed on to provide them with their unmistakable sonic identity, as integral to Halloween as Michael Meyers’ death’s-face mask and glimmering butcher knife. Carpenter has been composing and recording his own scores since he created the soundtrack to his first film, 1974’s Dark Star, on a EMS VCS 3 modular synthesizer. While originally a cost-cutting measure, he continued scoring most of his films even after he started making multiplex staples in the 80s and 90s, with the soundtracks to the Halloween series, They Live, and Escape from New York becoming classics in their own right. Over the past two decades, Carpenter’s directed only one feature (The Ward in 2010), but during that time he’s come to be recognized as much for his musical vision as his filmography. His boldly assertive compositions and pioneering use of synthesizers have inspired musicians in cinema and far beyond. His influence has been felt from the underground to pop radio, and played a foundational role in the modern synthwave movement. Since 2015, Carpenter’s released three albums of original music on Sacred Bones, created alongside Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, with remixes provided by some of his more notable fans. Like the film itself, Carpenter’s score to the second installment of the new Halloween trilogy, Halloween Kills, stays true to the spirit of what made the 1978 original great while bringing it firmly into the present. The music is unmistakably Carpenter: the sinister vintage synth tones, the breath-stealing sense of menace that he conjures with just a few dissonant notes. But with a broader sonic palette, new digital techniques at his disposal, and a deeper sense of musicality, the Halloween Kills score is the work of a master artist who nearly 50 years into his career continues to push his creative limits and find new ways to thrill and terrify his fans.

One of the best things about Picard S3 has been the fan service from TNG, DS9, and VOY, and one epic piece of the past just returned in a shocking way! In an episode filled with easter eggs, “The Bounty” brought Riker, Worf, and Raffi inside the Daystrom Institute in search of a secret, one that was guarded by this week’s guest. Daniel Davis just made his comeback to the Star Trek Universe, reprising his role as Moriarty, who appeared twice in Star Trek TNG, “Elemetnary, Dear Data” and “Ship in a Bottle”. In this special minisode of Trek Untold, Davis chatted with me about how he was brought into the show, what’s different about this version of Moriarty, the changes of being on a Star Trek set since his last time on the show, working with Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, and Michelle Hurd, and much more, including a story about his previous appearances, and his time on “The Nanny” with Fran Drescher. From the album "Halloween Ends OST", out now on Sacred Bones Records. Stream / buy: lnk.to/HalloweenEnds After 45 years, the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying conclusion as Laurie Strode faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers, in a final confrontation unlike any captured on-screen before, one where only one of them will survive. When the franchise relaunched in 2018, Halloween shattered box office records, becoming the franchise’s highest-grossing chapter and set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for a horror film starring a woman. In 2021, Halloween Kills earned the biggest opening weekend for any horror film in the pandemic era and simultaneously set a new record for a non-live event premiere streaming on Peacock. As Halloween Ends marks the last chapter of the David Gordon Green trilogy, so it ushers the essential return of original director and composer John Carpenter to score the iconically hair-raising soundtrack alongside Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Together they once again bring the celebrated music score to the horror movie series, one of the most distinctive aspects of the franchise to date. Similarly to the last two soundtracks, Halloween Ends was recorded in its entirety at John Carpenter’s home studio and Daniel’s studio. “The three of us compose, perform, and record all the music, and everything is mixed by Daniel together with John Spiker” says John Carpenter. The unmistakable mix of software synths, vintage analogue equipment, and live instrumentation is utilized once again to provide the signature sound of Halloween. However, rumors have it that Halloween Ends is going to be somewhat different from the previous two films in the trilogy. With that comes an expanded soundtrack, one that matches the tone of a tangible rise in stakes and conveys the climatic feel of the film. The soundtrack of the third installment broadens old themes whilst creating new ones in an effort to bring renewed life to one of the most epic horror scores ever written. Carpenter elaborates, “The main themes have all been passed down from the original Halloween. We have refined them and created new themes for new characters.” The soundtrack was tracked scene by scene but the album itself plays like a standalone piece of music. The general atmosphere is one of dread yet the record includes some groove laden moments reminiscent of Escape From New York or some of Carpenter’s other more dance-able scores. Exquisite and delicate ambient pieces weave their way between some of the score’s more arresting moments and yet maintain a subtle pop sensibility. The overall achievement showcases three master musicians, one of whom invented the entire horror-synth genre, crafting an evocative, playful and deeply listenable score that honors a legacy and expands on the decades of work that have been leading to this triumphant climax. Carpenter is known for directing the original 1978 Halloween, as well as other horror classics like The Thing, The Fog, Escape From New York, Christine, Big Trouble in Little China, and They Live. However John Carpenter is not only a cult movie-maker, he’s also a pioneering electronic composer. Halloween Ends is the soundtrack of the final battle against evil. Watch your back this Halloween, Michael may be near you.

John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter & Daniel Davies - The Halloween Trilogy Theme Mashup [Extended by Gilles Nuytens] *NEW EDIT* Following some problems you know about + some imperfections that have been pointed out to me on the previous version, I decided to rework it a bit and therefore re-upload this new edit. I hope this one is ok now. A 35 minutes long mashup is quite difficult to check because of its length. This is an Halloween Theme Mashup from the Halloween Trilogy (Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends) composed by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter & Daniel Davies. This is the original music, extended by myself from the 3 original soundtracks. For this edit I used all the different versions of the Main Halloween Theme from all the 3 movies and put them together as a whole 35 minutes piece. 🎃🔪 Halloween Ends - The Procession *[Extended]* 🤍 🎃🔪 Halloween Ends - Main Theme *[Extended]* 🤍 🎃 Check also my other Halloween extended mixes: 🤍 👉 And more extended mixes: 🤍 My channel makes no money from YouTube (even if YouTube is bombing my videos with ads...), so please consider supporting my editing efforts by giving my videos some likes and by sharing them. If you don't like it or want it removed, please ask before doing anything harmful. Remember that we are humans, not machines.
