The BMW M3 (G81) Competition xDrive Touring (to bestow its full title,) has been one of the most hotly anticipated cars ever since the first pictures lit up the internet. Those twin facets of practicality and performance are usually skewed one way or the other in a car, but occasionally there is the tantalizing promise of total harmony. This week, Henry seeks to find out if the M3 in wagon/estate/load-lugger form, is that promise realized. With exactly the same 503bhp, turbocharged, straight-six S58 engine under the bonnet and power going to all four wheels, the M3 Touring still does 0-62mph in a mere 3.6 seconds - just a tenth of a second slower than an M4 Competition xDrive. The top speed remains limited to 155mph (although if you opt for the M Driver’s Pack then this rises to 174mph.) In this episode of The Driver’s Seat, Henry Catchpole tests the M3 Touring on both on the road, and round the track, to see if the reality lives up to the hype. There are some big skids on the circuit (and then he pops a bit of shopping in the boot afterwards.) Knowing Henry at this point, he also tests the Touring’s ability to carry a bicycle, a size 58cm Specialized Tarmac SL5 S-Works (if such things matter to you,) and then finds some company in the shape of Otto—the giant teddybear. Can the new M3 Touring really take on “The Establishment,” aka, Audi’s RS4 and RS6 Avants? Will it feel lacking, given that the new Mercedes AMG C63 S estate has closer to 700bhp? In a shocking turn of events, will the appearance of the Ferrari Purosangue in the last few weeks, have made the estate format seem rather ‘old hat?’ Before you start adding things, like the Frozen Portimao Blue metallic paint, Carbon ceramic brakes and carbon bucket seats, the M3 Touring is not cheap. Priced at just over £80,000 in the UK (it’s not coming to the US. sorry folks,) the car comes with a steep price tag. However, it could be seen as multiple cars in one - we can certainly see it being helpful in the fantasy five car garage game. Anyway, we hope you enjoy the episode. And if you do, please consider sharing it with someone else that you think might appreciate it. Thank you. This is the all-new plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport, and Mat’s about to find out whether you should choose it over the petrol-powered edition! For starters, it looks pretty striking and is instantly recognisable as a Range Rover Sport. When it comes to design differences compared to the standard Range Rover Sport… Well, there aren’t any! Apart from the charging port towards the rear of the car, the plug-in hybrid and petrol cars are identical. It’s a similar story on the inside, too! It comes with a large infotainment screen, good quality materials throughout the majority of the cabin, and big, comfortable seats. The only difference compared to the petrol-powered car is some additional screens on the infotainment system, as well as new options on the digital dials to allow you to drive in electric-power mode. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 3-litre turbocharged straight-six engine along with an electric motor. The range-topping edition can produce 510hp, which sends power to all four wheels. As for the price, well it’s pretty expensive, coming in at just under £114,000! But then again, that’s only £4,000 more than the petrol-powered car! So with that in mind, should you just choose the plug-in hybrid instead? Stick with Mat and see for yourself! Think about electric cars and the chances are the Tesla Model 3 immediately comes to mind. It's the poster child of the EV revolution, after all. But the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is now here to stakes its claim at segment leadership. But when there are so many Model 3s on Australian roads, you really have to find a way to stand out from the crowd - and that's exactly what the Ioniq 6 sedan is attempting to do with its divisive exterior design. Dubbed by the South Korean brand as the Electrified Streamliner, the Ioniq 6 joins the retro-chic Ioniq 5 SUV as the second model on its emerging dedicated E-GMP platform, but will it truly shake-up the market? In this expert review, CarsGuide Deputy Editor James Cleary takes the new Ioniq 6 for a spin to see whether or not it's a classic case of style over substance. But with its maximum WLTP-rated driving range of 614km among the longest on offer today, it seems it has more than a few tricks up its proverbial sleeve. #Hyundai #Ioniq6 #Review 00:00 Intro 00:45 Design 02:27 Under the bonnet 02:55 Pricing and features 04:39 Practicality 07:37 Efficiency 09:13 Driving 13:01 Safety 13:44 Ownership 14:27 Verdict Read James' full review: 🤍 Check out our Hyundai Ioniq 6 hub: 🤍 Find more sedans: 🤍 Visit our EV Guide: 🤍 CarsGuide - Go beyond the test drive Visit our website for News, Reviews, Advice and more: 🤍 Subscribe to our YouTube channel: 🤍 Like our Facebook page: 🤍 Follow our Instagram profile: 🤍 Follow our TikTok profile: 🤍 Follow our Twitter profile: 🤍 Follow our LinkedIn page: 🤍
Meet the all-new BMW XM! It’s the first BMW M-exclusive SUV, and Mat’s about to find out if it’s worth the eye-watering £147,000+ price tag! For starters, let’s check out the design - and there’s no denying it’s certainly eye-catching! With a huge grille with horizontal slats up front, the XM looks like an absolute beast! There’s gold trim to be found from the front to the rear, and around the back, you’ll even find stacked horizontal tailpipes! The impressive looks continue on the inside too, with a huge curved infotainment screen, super-comfy leather sports seats, and soft-touch materials throughout the cabin. There’s even a futuristic 3D-printed headliner! Under the bonnet, you’ll find an almighty 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 653hp and 800Nm of torque. Although in the future a Label Red edition is due which will produce 748hp! So it’s all pretty impressive, right? But is it really worth around £150,000?! Stick with Mat and see for yourself! The 2023 Aston Martin DBS ($406,086 as spec’d in the US) aims to provide the ultimate Grand Touring experience. And with its long sleek hood and intimidating design language, it’s hard to deny the DBS’ curb appeal. But how does it perform as a proper GT car? Ride quality, comfort, and engine personality are all important facets of a GT car that’s able to excite its driver. This is the all-new MG4! Mat’s got his hands on this family-friendly EV, and he’s about to see if it can compete with class leaders such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born. For starters, it looks great from the outside! Top-of-the-range models get a smart light bar around the back and a cool roof spoiler. What’s more, they also come with a black roof and blacked-out rear windows. There’s also a super cool front splitter up top, along with some smart daytime running lights. One thing’s for sure, this car looks much more expensive than it actually is! The good news is, the good looks continue on the inside. There are two large separate infotainment and dial screens, and a smart two-spoke steering wheel. You’ll also find good-quality materials throughout the majority of the cabin. The infotainment system is ok, but it does also come with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay as standard. There are two choices of batteries, with the range-topper being 61kWh. This then comes with a range of up to 281 miles, along with a 203hp motor. This car, and the entry-level, are both rear-wheel drive. So what's the price? Well, it starts from just over £26,000! Think it sounds too good to be true? You’ll have to join Mat for this all-new review to see for yourself! Introducing the all-new Vauxhall or Opel Astra! Mat’s got his hands on Vauxhall’s/Opel's new family-friendly hatchback and he’s about to see if it has what it takes to compete with competitors such as the Peugeot 308! For starters, it more than looks the part! The new Astra rolls up with a totally redesigned bumper and grille, coupled with a nice crease in the bonnet to give it a more sporty look. Around the back, there’s a smart integrated light design along with a bootlip spoiler. It’s also possible to get a contrasting roof colour with certain trims! On the inside, the Astra is pretty smart, although the design doesn’t live up to the quality of the exterior. The build quality is pretty solid, and thankfully it comes with a number of physical buttons for the climate control. It’s possible to get a large infotainment screen, too, although the system isn’t exactly the best. Thankfully though it does come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto! There are a number of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, along with a plug-in hybrid! The latter delivers the most power, with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and electric motor combining to deliver 180hp. The range kicks off from around £24,000, but is it worth it? This is the all-new Honda Civic! The previous edition of the Civic was one of the most popular & recognisable family cars on the road. The question is, does the all-new edition offer enough to sway you away from a different family hatchback? Well, let’s see what’s on offer. In terms of the design, it’s markedly different to the previous model, with a swooping tailgate around the rear through to an updated front with LED headlights and a new grille. On the inside, you’ll be treated to a simple but well-laid-out dash. There are good quality materials throughout most of the cabin, along with physical dials to make it easy to manage climate controls. The infotainment has also been updated, although it’s pretty middle of the road. Thankfully though, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard! Considering it’s a family hatchback, it’s still not the cheapest. The entry-level edition starts at just under £30,000! But does it offer enough for you to still choose it over the competition? Meet the most luxurious, hi-tech cars BMW has ever released - the new BMW 7 Series & BMW i7! Mat’s flown over to America to get his hands on these two luxurious limos to give them a full-blown, proper in-depth review! Let’s start with a look at the design. One thing’s for sure, from the back and the side, there’s no hiding that this is clearly a 7 Series. Sure there have been a few design upgrades over the previous generation, but the side and rear profile are quite clearly in the traditional 7 Series mold. But of course, it’s up top where things get interesting, with an absolutely massive double kidney grille that dominates the front end. Combine this with the split headlight design on either side, and you've got yourself one car that will definitely turn heads! Once you step inside, you are treated to a cabin absolutely full of high-quality materials, including leather & carbon on the dash, soft-touch felt on the roof, and super comfortable cashmere seats. You’ll also find the same swooping infotainment screen as in the new iX. But of course, the main feature of this interior is the huge 31-inch 8K cinema screen in the back! This thing is absolutely insane, and when you combine it with the ability to fully recline the seats in the back, there’s no denying that this is pretty much the best bit of technology we’ve got our hands on in any car… EVER! When it comes to performance, the range-topping BMW i7 60 comes with two electric motors to deliver 544hp and 745Nm of torque. It comes with a 102kWh battery pack that’s good for a claimed range of 388 miles. As for the BMW 7 Series, it comes with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers an almost identical 544hp and 750Nm. As for the price, the 7 Series starts at £102,000, while the i7 starts at £108,000. But are they both worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Say hello to the all-new Peugeot 408! We’ve got our hands on Peugeot’s all-new half hatchback, half SUV, and we’re about to see if it can stand out in this oh-so-crowded car market. For starters, the 408 is clearly a looker. With loads of creases and sharp angular taillights, we’re getting some serious Urus vibes from the rear! The good looks continue up front too, with a cool grille design and Peugeot’s instantly recognisable fang daytime running lights. What’s more, the good looks continue once you step inside the cabin. There’s a cool dash design up top, and the seats aren’t only comfortable, but also come in an Alcantara-like material. The infotainment system is a real winner, too, with both the central screen and digital dials being highly customisable. It’s easy to choose an engine, as there are only three to choose from. The entry-level comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, and then there are two plug-in hybrids, with the range-topper being a 1.6-litre turbo petrol coupled with an electric motor which can deliver 225hp. It can also drive for up to 40 miles on electric power alone. All sounds pretty positive, right? Well, there’s one key sticking point… The price! The 408 starts at around £31,000, and the one we have our hands on here will set you back around £46,000! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Shout-out to Yianni for lending us his Range Rover! 🤍Y14nny Here it is, our review of the all-new Range Rover! The Range Rover has always been seen as pretty much the pinnacle of British SUV craftsmanship (no offence, Bentley Bentayga…), but the question is, does the latest generation live up to the quality of the last iteration? Well, it’s time to find out! Mat’s joined forces with Yianni to put the new Range through its paces. In terms of cost, it starts from around £99,000, jumping all the way up to £180,000 - so what do you get for your money? Well starting with the design, it’s so much smoother and sleeker than before. From the front through to the back, this is one SUV that’s done away with the creases and curves, but one which thankfully remains unmistakably a Range Rover! Around the back, you’ll find hidden lights which are integrated into the car, along with flush door handles on either side and an all-new grille design up front. The quality continues on the inside, too. Sure, it’s maybe not as luxurious as a Bentayga, but it’s still built to a high quality! The chairs are super comfy, and there is a whole load of storage to be found throughout the cabin. You get a big infotainment screen up front coupled with some physical climate control buttons, and of course, it comes with a digital dial display. Meet the all-new Renault Megane! The Megane is back and it’s only available as an EV! The question is, should you consider it over electric competitors like the Kia e-Niro and Cupra Born? Let’s find out… For starters, it’s a super stylish car. From the rear, it comes with a wide LED light strip, a mini roof spoiler and a gold strip around the diffuser (for top spec cars, that is). It also comes with a contrasting black roof, integrated door handles and 20” alloy wheels! The front end’s just as good, with thin headlights, swooping daytime running lights and even contours in the bonnet! The quality continues on the inside, too. The dash comes covered in fabric and there are other soft touch materials throughout the cabin. There’s a big infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, as well as a big digital drivers display. The steering wheel is in a hexagonal shape, and all-in-all looks pretty smart. In terms of performance, the Megane comes with a big 60kWh battery pack, along with a single electric motor that can deliver 217hp and 300Nm of torque. It has a claimed range of 280 miles, and a top speed of 99mph. In terms of price, the Megane starts from around £36,000. But is it worth it? You’ll have to stick with Mat and see for yourself! See if you should buy an electric car - 🤍 This is the all-new Polestar 2! It’s an alternative to the oh-so-popular Tesla Model 3, and based on looks alone, we think it has the potential to beat it and be the must-have EV of 2020! But with a price tag just shy of £50,000, we need to take a proper look to see if it can sway us away from the class-leading Model 3! It may be packing a 78kWh battery and dual electric motors, helping it achieve over 400hp and 660Nm of torque, but is it enough? You'll have to join Mat for his latest in-depth review to find out!
